What do we think about classism in non-profit development? Many point to this as the root cause of lack of meaningful diversity in the workplace. "U.S. workers from lower social-class origins are 32% less likely to become managers than are people from higher origins." And "research shows that when a disadvantaged group is well represented among company managers, it receives more-effective advocacy."
While many are aware that this is an issue on our organizations' boards, it applies to staff as well, and becomes more visible in upper management and major giving roles. What do you think? What ways do you see this?
