Darkness makes unicorns shine brighter. 🦄💫 As this video bravely shares, internalized shame once dimmed an incredible light. But the struggle fueled purpose. No one should endure judgment for who they are. Though my path has shadows, I've dedicated my life to helping others find the light. My compassion was gained through hardship. Now I guide others out of hatred into self-love. Because I know the pain, I can relieve it. If my story can teach you a lesson, let it be hope - "It gets better." The resilience I see in others like me inspires me. Let hardship make you unbreakable, not bitter. You are all worthy of joy. We, unicorns, have just one life to live boldly, and authentically. Let us show everyone how it’s done. This red chair changed my life forever. Here’s how I went from $60,000/year to $60,000 per sale: I had been recording podcasts for a couple of years. I spent most of the time locked away honing the craft. Every morning, every evening and every weekend. I was still working a 9-5, and I was horribly burnt out. Putting down 60+ hours a week. Chasing meaningless targets. I escaped to a random island to figure sh*t out for a bit. The hotel was $7 a night, and it was exactly what I needed. A bed, a table and a sh*tty plastic red chair. Perfect. After months of trying to get Voics off the ground, I started booking calls. There was one problem.. I had no sales experience and no idea what I was doing. BUT I knew my product inside and out. I knew it solved massive PAIN. 90% of podcasts don’t get passed episode 3 and I could fix that. Anyway.. I get on the call and walk this guy through my exact process. No bullsh*t, no gimmicks, just exactly HOW I would do it. After the obvious “who the f*ck is this kid” question, we pulled the trigger. I went from earning $60K in a year to $60K in a single sale. We didn’t just stop there. We repeated the process continuously. Every day, every month, crawling if we had to. We built a killer team, scaled our offering that now generates +50M views a year. Entrepreneurship is a brutal game of inches. It doesn’t just ‘happen’. If you’re willing to eat concrete long enough, you’ll make it happen. The client is still with us to this day. He’s pretty happy and so am I. Sometimes you just need one person to believe in you. Even if you are just a young, dumb kid.

As many of you know, and some of you to soon find out, I don’t like doing what everyone else is doing. When everyone was reading the Harry Potter series and watching the movies. I didn’t. Still haven’t. When I sense people are jumping on a koolaid trend, I step back and watch. I just don’t like being like everyone else. I don’t want to do something because it’s “cool” or “popular”. Until now….. I started a Podcast, like everyone else. This was a tough pill to swallow and move forward with. Put my ego aside. My pure intention is to be lead and guided purely, intuitively and from a Divine source. I knew I was going to do a podcast but on what and about what, I didn’t know, until about 6 months ago, late at night while I was laying in bed in a cloud of existentialism. I grabbed my phone and furiously began to write all my thoughts down including the title. From then, I have methodically (and probably a little slower than my usual) gotten to this point. And all the right people have presented themselves from my creative director Adam Jaouni, to a teacher in all things recording and podcasts, Shawn Denevan. I feel some fear and trepidation. Then I know I’m really heading in the right direction! (Fear is a telltale green light for me based on previous experiences.) My goal and intention is to help people think outside the box. To truly explore into the “unknown”, the things we’ve been told to stay away from; to step into 100% individual authenticity. To encourage others to go by the beat of their own drum. Caution: expansion and challenging beliefs may be presented. How will you respond?….Then explore that further.

Believe it or not, the COVID lockdown was almost four years ago. For many of us, 2020 was a rough year. But there was also an ironic sort of freedom that accompanied the lockdown. People who were stuck at home discovered new talents and hobbies. People who had never made anything more complex than a boxed cake mix were suddenly baking their own bread. Musical talents were honed. Podcasts were created. People got to explore their interests, instead of flitting from one responsibility to the next. Imagine if we could recapture that spirit, the sense of community that comes from being collectively in an uncomfortable situation. What could we accomplish if we chased our dreams instead of always staying chained to the grindstone? Turn off your phone. Go for a walk. Paint a picture. You still have the time for your interests, you just have to prioritize them. 

"When I left the ER this last time, I could barely remember how to get home, but I distinctly remember thinking about the beautiful opening line from the novel The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton. She wrote, 'When I stepped out into the bright sunlight from the darkness of the movie house, I had only two things on my mind: Paul Newman and a ride home.' My own version was more like, 'When I stepped out into the warm pink sunset from the bright (hopefully) sterile lights of the ER, I had only two things on my mind: pasta and complete and total surrender.'" Episode 120 of the Love Letters and Mixtapes podcast is a personal love letter/life update about vulnerability, willingness, and connection. “None of us has ever done anything on our own when you really think about it. We have always had help or guidance. Others have paved or pointed the way for us in some form or another, whether we were aware of it beforehand or not. And now that *you* know this, it’s important for you to recognize that you have a responsibility to give back. To help others. To send the ladder back down and lift the next group up. To pay it forward. To be useful.” The transition from “me-focused” to “we focused” is really the essence of Arnold Schwarzeneggar’s book Be Useful. The above quote is lifted from Chapter 7 of that book titled “Break the Mirrors.” It’s a phrase Arnold borrowed from a speech his father-in-law, Sargent Shriver, gave in 1994 in which Shriver implored the audience to free themselves from a self-absorbed mindset to one of giving back. Last month Arnold was a guest on Rich Roll’s popular podcast. Roll perfectly titled the October 2, 2023 episode: “From ‘I’ll Be Back’ to To Giving Back: Arnold Schwarzenegger Is The Influencer We Need.” The greatest bodybuilder ever. A No. 1 box office movie star. Governor and public servant. And now from “me-focused” to “we-focused.” It doesn't absolve him of the mistakes he's made in life, but what an incredibly worthwhile Fourth Act. We can thank all those who helped us on our personal journeys by "being useful" and paying it forward.

Well, my new site is up. Sort of! Like my repairing brain, it is healing out of order. So you'll be able to see what's returning to me as it comes back but like all things about #braininjury it comes back in pieces. So, do treat it like a "work in progress!" and if it doesn't make sense to you, make the global assumption: that's just how healing brains work. One important point about this, also, and I think it's genuinely important. I have electronic records of every event I am going to add to my website now from years ago. I'm going to post it as if that was the day I added it. So if I add a note about my birthday in August 1975, obviously that didn't happen contemporaneously as it predates every aspect of the electronic revolution. It just acts as a way of recording when something happened. It's an interesting way of committing events to the 'electronic record', as it were. There's nothing I can do about it or you for that matter. That's why I've also introduced the concept of Brian, but you can find that on my site too (although the reason I call my brain, Brian is obvious if you think about it)... I may well return to those topics in a future episode of Recovery: A Podcast Project but the first episode is up and it's a hard one to listen to (https://lnkd.in/easiE9Hu).
