Four years ago, after the murder of George Floyd, corporate America made fervent promises to reform its workforce and earmarked billions of dollars for racial justice initiatives. Now, some of those same companies are under fire for the DEI policies they championed. Anti-DEI critics argue some of the initiatives amount to reverse discrimination and make the workplace less welcoming. What do you think? Has the backlash impacted you? Do you think DEI programs are working in your workplace? Fill out our survey at the link below -- or, if you prefer, send me a message with your thoughts: sfoxman4<at>bloomberg<dot>net https://lnkd.in/evDunM-M (A link directly to the survey is in the comments.)

Great post ⬇ DEI work has to be central to an org's mission. It should exist in every meeting room, every decision, and every project. Developing a marketing strategy means authentic branding — A.K.A. actually walking the walk.
I want to address something head-on: the narrative that DE&I is dead is not only misguided but fundamentally wrong. DE&I is not just alive; it is the very lifeline of our progress and our future. Let’s be clear: the wave of consciousness that swept through us after the tragedy of George Floyd’s death wasn't the beginning and it certainly isn't the end of our journey. DE&I is not a fleeting trend. It should transcend traditional boundaries of inclusion (i.e. race, gender, sexual orientation) and advocate for a workplace that welcomes an unprecedented diversity of generations, champions accessibility as a gateway to inclusivity, and upholds equitable practices to break down socioeconomic disparities. Diversity of thought is essential for the survival and success of businesses, fueling innovation and driving revenue. As our world evolves, so must our approach to fostering an environment where everyone truly belongs. We are standing at a crossroads, and the choices we make today will echo through the lives of our children and their children after them. This isn't about whether DE&I is 'dead' or not; it's about whether we are willing to recommit ourselves to this necessary work. My ask of you is that we keep pushing back against this narrative that is designed to slow us down and make us frightened. Let’s keep growing and never lose faith in what we can accomplish together. #onward

We stand on broad shoulders as we take action during Women’s History Month and International Women’s Day. Our role as a collective is to build on history to advance women’s equity so that the next generation of women work without discrimination and harassment. The modern workplace was built by men, for men. Some systems have improved over time, but other systems remain hidden and unchecked, quietly enforcing oppression and inequity. One such system puts corporate interests directly at odds with the well-being of harassment survivors. And it’s fixable. Let’s honor our hard-won history with a new vision for the future. Per Harvard Business Review: Responding to activist voices in the workplace - "First, it’s important to understand the range of responses available and their pros and cons. Second, you should consider five factors that will help you decide whether it’s appropriate and productive to step in. Finally, give yourself permission to pause. Together, these strategies will help prepare you for the next time you’re challenged by employee activists."

With last year's changes in Affirmative Action, it's time to really think about what diversity means in our workplace and its impact beyond. I've always been passionate about this, and for me, it's much more than just ticking a box for the company. Diversity is really the heart of a thriving workplace. It's about mixing different perspectives, which fuels innovation and moves us forward. We’re talking about valuing different backgrounds and ideas because they're key to what makes us successful. So let’s keep cherishing and celebrating our diverse strengths. It’s these very differences that play a crucial part in building a future that’s stronger and more inclusive for all of us. #HonorDifference #EmbraceDiversity #WeRiseTogether
