“I’ve been putting work above my own needs.” (I've been there too.) I'm a burnout specialist. And by that, I don’t mean I'm a social media guru. I mean in the past I got really good at pushing myself past reasonable limits at work. I chased the "success" that came from working long hours in environments that did not support taking breaks or a work-life balance. In 2022, my performance on paper looked great, bonuses flooded in, and I was smiling through it all. But the truth was: I was so tired. And behind it all my health was taking a huge hit. Was it really all worth it? No. Because nothing that comes at the cost of your well-being ever truly is worth it. At least not for long. Today, I’m rethinking what it means to work and I believe content can help. Content helps spread awareness that taking care of ourselves is good for business. And guess what? I often feel we don't talk about Burnout enough. Here is some food for thought... In my decade-long experience in Talent Acquisition, I've witnessed a significant struggle in balancing work, income, and personal life while hearing people's stories and motivations to change jobs. Many of us carry dissatisfaction with a heavy heart, questioning career choices and fostering self-doubt. It's evident that there is a profound sense of burnout in our society today. There is disconnection into people's needs vs what is requested by companies' vs the society's definition of what success looks like. This disconnection leaves people fatigued, confused, feeling unheard, feeling trapped. How can workplaces and we as individuals address this issue? To me, the key lies in fostering constant conversations to navigate this challenge collectively and choosing new and better habits every day. The problem seems to be that today the main focus on profit making rather than personal growth and this has led to a disconnect between individuals and their work.
