1Password’s 2024 State of Enterprise Security report just launched today, with a focus on balancing security and productivity in the age of AI. Well-intentioned employees want to perform well and as disruptive technology like generative AI presents new efficiencies, they’re looking to unapproved apps and tools – known as shadow IT – to be more productive. In fact: 🌟 One in three employees (34%) admit to using shadow IT – or unapproved apps and tools – to be more productive. However, this often results in security taking a back seat on employees’ list of priorities. 🌟 More than half of employees (54%) admit to being lax about their company’s security policies. Reasons include a desire to get things done quickly and be productive (24%). HR plays an important role in helping to ease this longstanding tension between security and employee productivity by advocating for easy-to-use security, setting relevant policies, and creating a culture of security and cultivating safe spaces for security discussions to take place. On top of that, HR should pay close attention to the temperature of cybersecurity teams to ensure they’re receiving the care, guidance, and mentorship they need to do their jobs effectively. 🌟 79% of security pros don’t feel their security protections are adequate. 🌟 More than two-thirds of security pros acknowledge they’re at least partly reactive when it comes to security. Among the highest reasons why? 61% say they’re being pulled in too many conflicting directions. 1Password is on an ongoing mission to make security simple, and that begins with a people-focused approach to security.
