Representatives of BDO in Ukraine, Andrii Borenkov, CFA and Vira Savchenko as part of their work with the European Business Associationʼs Ukraine Recovery Committee, held a meeting with representatives of the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine, including Deputy Minister Volodymyr Kuzo, Vyacheslav Ovechkin and others. We are very grateful for the open discussion and valuable insights. Exploring the Synergy between NBU, EBRD, and Financial Institutions to Support War Veterans In a remarkable step toward enhancing the financial inclusion and societal reintegration of war veterans in Ukraine, the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) have joined forces. The collaboration was formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), underscoring a unified commitment to the welfare of veterans who have served the nation. The MoU, signed by NBU Governor Andriy Pyshnyy and EBRD Managing Director Francis Malige, paves the way for the implementation of inclusive practices within the financial sector, aimed particularly at supporting the unique needs of war veterans. A significant focus is the promotion of a financial Charter dedicated to enhancing the inclusivity and reintegration of veterans into society. The integration of veterans into the financial ecosystem is not just about ensuring equitable access to financial services but also about recognizing and valuing their contribution to the workforce. This initiative encourages financial institutions to adopt veteran-friendly policies, including creating environments that accommodate veterans’ specific needs, making financial services more accessible, and embracing inclusive HR policies that facilitate veterans' employment. Already, 28 banks have demonstrated their support by joining the Charter, reflecting a collective move towards a more inclusive financial environment. This initiative represents an important step in acknowledging the sacrifices of veterans and ensuring their smooth transition to civilian life, contributing to a more inclusive and understanding society. The collaborative efforts of the NBU, EBRD, and participating financial institutions set a precedent for supporting community members who have given so much in service to their country. As this initiative unfolds, it will surely lead to beneficial outcomes for veterans, the financial sector, and Ukrainian society at large. Today the European Commission released its second annual report on the #RRF, the centerpiece of €800 billion #NextGenerationEU. The report highlights the high level of #transparency that distinguishes the instrument, the progress made (€153.4 billion have already been disbursed!), and provides details on the actions taken to ensure that funds are used regularly and efficiently. Strengthening Europe's resilience together! 💼 🇪🇺   Launched two and a half years ago as a core part of NextGenerationEU, the €723billion Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF) is a vital tool to support EU countries.    These funds are strategically used by EU countries to drive essential change and make their economies and societies more resilient and future-proof.    It's also vital in driving forward REPowerEU, our response to the economic challenges posed by Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.    The RRF has achieved significant milestones during its operation, while increasing transparency.    Today we publish the second annual report summarising the progress of the RRF. I was delighted to present, alongside John-David Tochon, the OECD’s perspectives on developments in Ukraine’s financial sector during this challenging period. 💡 📊 We highlighted Ukraine's institutional resilience and swift policy responses which have preserved macroeconomic and financial stability. The financial strategies implemented by nations in response to geopolitical events can be both nuanced and impactful. A recent example of this is Belgium's approach towards the frozen Russian assets. Following the significant immobilization of Russian assets at Euroclear, the renowned European clearing house, Belgium has devised an innovative strategy to aid Ukraine.
