Discover how Équipe cycliste Groupama-FDJ uses simulation to gain a competitive edge in cycling by saving up to 2 seconds per kilometer. 🚴
See how the team utilizes solutions such as Ansys Fluent, Ansys Discovery, Ansys SpaceClaim, and Ansys Gateway powered by AWS to better understand the impact of airflow, wind resistance, and other factors to push the boundaries of performance.
- Thanks Ansys Gateway powered by AWS, we had the power to decrease the time calculation by 17 times. So we pass to 24 hours
to one hour and a half. - I think that what is important, is to push the limits, to push the boundaries of the performance, but to make that, it's always important to
have a good observations, what is fast around the different sport, the different teams
around the group of FDJ. The wind is, on the flat, approximately 90% of the total resistance. So this is the real reason
why it's very important to take into account
this resistance force. If you don't work on aerodynamics to push this limit on the material, on the position of the
bike with the athletes, I think it's very difficult to push the limits of aerodynamics. This is the reason why, to integrate to some different
methodology, techniques like Ansys and AWS, it will be very important for us to continue to push the
limit of the system. - There is a real trust between us to result to the way of working. That's something really important and maybe we hope winning some race with this new partnership. We do this kind of work
because we want to be faster. This is the way we want to, and all the cyclists saw that. It's really important to be
faster in the time trial, that we named TT, to be
faster and to be the best one. - Groupama FDJ, having professional elite, a team part of the world tour, they are having one of
the best team in the world for the last two years. So much better to work
with this kind of team. But more importantly, this
team is very open minded. That means that they're open
to this kind of new technology, which is modeling simulation and rather to say, "Okay, build us some nice colorful picture", they say, "No, it could
really make a big difference". Person like Frederic Grappe
and Victor Simonin are here who are saying "Okay,
well I want to invest more for that. I want to take advantage of that, because I'm convinced that indeed simulation will help
us to better understand the airflow around the athlete and if we better understand the airflow, we can optimize this element". This kind of trust that we
can see between the leader, the scientific leader of this
team and the simulation tool is something very important. That's the only way to do that. - When you want to make a simulation of the rider on bicycle system, that takes approximately one day. It's long, it's time consuming. This is the reason why the collaboration with AWS to increase the speed of our
simulations by 20, 24 hours becomes between one,
two hours simulations, that allow us to make a lot of simulation during one day, for example. With Ansys, using Ansys Fluent or Discovery for example, you can have a good understanding of the effect of the air
flow, of the different shape, different surface of
the frame and the rider. So this is reason why
it's a good complementary of the wind tunnel methodology. This increase of the
speed for the computation is very impressive for us, with this collaboration Ansys and AWS. It's perfect for us.
Learn how these designers are shaving off seconds by developing more aerodynamic road bikes using Ansys Fluent and Ansys Discovery. Simulations allow designers to create more realistic riding conditions far more easily and quickly than would be practical using a wind tunnel.
However, you don’t have to be developing performance bikes to find competitive advantages with Ansys Discovery. What are the products in your business that will benefit from the “Ansys Touch”!
#GA4 tip >> You can see the average elapsed time between funnel steps by enabling the 'SHOW ELAPSED TIME' setting in a Funnel exploration report. This setting is disabled by default. GA4 is able to track elapsed time between funnel steps for days.
In honor of Red Bull losing their first F1 race in months, check out how Ansys CFD (computational fluid dynamics) is used by the top teams in F1 to simulate aerodynamics and fluid flow. For the F1 fans - below is some more info I learned recently:
You often hear about how wind tunnel time is limited in F1, and how crucial it is for teams to make the most of it so they'll know how their parts will perform aerodynamically. One thing you MIGHT not know: CFD is such a crucial part of aerodynamic testing, teams are actually measured by their wind tunnel time AND their CFD software usage - aka using more of one means you use less of the other. CFD is measured in "Allocation Unit Hours" (AUh) and there is a sliding scale of how much wind tunnel time you get vs how much CFD simulation AUh you use. It's vitally important for F1 engineers to use CFD simulation efficiently so they get the feedback needed to make the BEST physical prototypes - the first time.
Fortunately, most engineering teams don't face such strict measurements and can use more simulation before physical testing to save time and money! In order to make sure you're continually optimizing your design process, reach out to an Ansys rep near you ;).
It's super cool to work at Ansys, as our work has such broad positive impact. And unlike EDA, it's really easy to describe what we do! Here's a video that talks about how Ferrari wins with Ansys.
we used the synchrotron based XRF and XANES mapping to investigate the influence of the LLZTO fillers on the properties of interface between composite polmyer electrolyte sand Li metal, which just published in ACS AMI:
