**Embracing Carefreeness Under Pressure: Lessons from Hamilton** Hamilton has taken Edinburgh by storm, bringing excitement and buzz to the Festival Theatre Edinburgh. While the show's success is undeniable, this post isn't just about Hamilton – it's about the fact that being carefree under pressure delivers your best performance. We had the privilege of meeting the Hamilton team just before their opening night. Imagine this – a cast that had just arrived in town, with a 4 day turnaround, navigating a new stage, a new theatre. The pressure to deliver was palpable, but what stood out was the team's carefree attitude. 🗣️ "We want the first night to be as good as any other night, so we really have to get it right. Other shows might not do a dress rehearsal but do a preview night, but we need it to be perfect every night," shared the show's director in a surprisingly relaxed manner, given the seriousness of the intent and the speedy turnaround. In our work, we often point to the fact that pressure doesn't have to equal stress. Hamilton's team embodied this, demonstrating that the best performance arises when you're carefree – not so tense they were worried, not so laid back that they didn't care. They were carefree in action, and it was truly inspirational. Hamilton, known for its wordy script, made me ponder – how carefree must you be to deliver over 250,000 words in total at an average of 140 words per minute, set to music? It's reminiscent of tongue twisters; the harder you try to go fast, the more likely you are to stumble. Carefreeness isn't about having low standards; it's about letting go of the 'ifs,' 'buts,' and 'maybes' to focus on the present and trusting what's built in to deal with whatever happens.
