In my capacity as Honorary Consul of Mauritius to Indonesia, I had the opportunity to host several honorary consuls in Indonesia on Tuesday (25/06) last week, to have dinner together at the residence of Indonesia's 3rd President, the late BJ Habibie, while discussing opportunities for bilateral and multilateral cooperation in in the fields of economics, education and culture with the Chairman of AHCI or the Association of Honorary Consul for Indonesia as well as the Honorary Consul of Iceland, Hon. Maxi Gunawan and was also welcomed by my friend Nadia Habibie and her mother, Mrs. Insana Habibie.
Honorary Consul is a position in the world of global diplomacy which is regulated in the Vienna Convention, and in the context of state representation in the Special Region of Jakarta there are 25 Honorary Consuls who, if there is a career diplomat representative of that country, is equivalent with the position of Ambassador.
This makes the mandate carried out by the Honorary Consul is very significant, for this reason support is needed from all stakeholders including the Consular Corps from friendly neighboring countries and related institutional ministries.
Not only establishing new opportunities, this meeting also aims to strengthen diplomatic relations between countries. We hope that this meeting will be the beginning of the birth of new, useful initiatives, strengthening diplomatic relations and increasing mutually beneficial cooperation in various strategic sectors.
This meeting was also attended by various colleagues from the Honorary Consul of Jamaica Soy soy martua pardede Cyprus Hardjuni, Lithuania Sugihono Kadarisman Estonia Adriana Sri Lestari, Ivory Coast M.
