Our core value of sustainability guides our decisions and inspires us to grow the positive impact of our work. This commitment drove us to develop a first-of-its-kind initiative for the clean energy industry: the Apex Conservation Grant Program, which to date has distributed $2.4 million (plus over $6 million in matching funds) to preserve and restore nearly 3,000 acres near our project areas.

Community input is a crucial part of the development process. A clean energy project represents a decades-long partnership with host counties and townships, and when set up correctly can directly address local needs while also fostering long-term prosperity. In Isabella County, a group of farmers came together to create a revenue-sharing lease that helped result in the largest wind farm in the state—securing decades of economic growth for the area. Clean energy carries enormous potential for local communities: for emergency services, school districts, and more, the revenue produced by projects can create decades of economic security. Enter Big Trail Energy, a wind, solar, storage, and green fuels project that will transform how power is generated. ⚡

MISO has increased its wind resource by nearly two-thirds over the past five years, yet the benefits of this shift have not fully taken hold: the Midwest grid operator also sees a very high rate of wind power curtailment in favor of coal. Across the MISO footprint from 2021 to 2023, running coal power when cheaper resources were available saddled customers with $1.1 billion in excess costs, in addition to hindering the economic development that clean energy could create for the region. American Clean Power Week with the American Clean Power Association (ACP) continues! Today, we highlight our Timbermill Wind project, located just north of Edenton, North Carolina. Timbermill is one of eight clean energy facilities that Apex is currently constructing, and it’s the second-ever wind farm in the Tar Heel State. 💨⚡ The project will generate approximately $33 million in tax revenue for the Chowan County community while creating a new source of income for local landowners and more than 250 jobs as it’s being built.
