Chris Morgan, an Olympic medallist, 2x rowing world champion and transformational leader, joined us recently for an inspiring discussion and fundraising event focused on inspiring leadership. He made a profound point about life not always following our planned paths. Chris highlighted the concept of survivor bias, where we often hear success stories and assume that's the norm, overlooking countless others with different outcomes. Life's journey is filled with twists and turns. Sometimes, we might feel like we've missed our chance or that it's too late to start anew. But Chris challenges this perception, urging us not to limit ourselves by such stereotypes. Regardless of age or circumstances, life has a way of surprising us with opportunities we never imagined. It's about being open to new possibilities and embracing the unpredictable journey ahead. Let's invest in courage. Introducing you to my colleague Elayna Alexandra, M.B.A., NCC™, PCC -. All those acronyms mean she is academically and experientially prepared to coach and consult to business leaders. But that's not the half of it. A year ago, Elayna was recruited to the US Amputee Women's Soccer Team. Had she played soccer? Nope. But she had the courage to relearn to run after choosing amputation three years ago for a congenital leg condition. Now Elayna is raising funds for Team USA to go the first ever World Cup in Women's Amputee Soccer. She and her teammates have overcome countless surgeries (Elayna has had 22!), endless PT, mind-boggling medical bills, and a lot of pain and sweat to be on the field and compete. When we invest in Elayna and her team, we tell kids and adults with differences -- and especially girls -- that your courage matters. Your perseverance matters. Your teamwork matters.
