"The most controversial thing I’ve done is to stick around." Madonna, O2, London, December 6th, 2023. So what can we learn from Madonna about age diversity? I was among the fortunate ones who secured tickets for the additional shows in London to see Madonna's "Celebration Tour". As soon as we found our seats and sat down, the gentleman next to us jokingly remarked, "you're bringing down the age average in this row...." Looking around, he had a point, but after taking a closer look a few rows ahead and behind, the crowd appeared more age-diverse. Madonna, with a career spanning 40+ years, may not currently be at the forefront of shaping music trends, but does she have to be? Her significance lies in connecting generations through her art, educating through her experiences, and influencing major artists who follow her. This perspective extends to how the business world should approach age. Just as it might be considered controversial for Madonna to persist, the same to individuals aged 55+ in my industry. How can organizations foster an age-inclusive culture? The solution lies in recognizing the experience of our older colleagues, viewing them as a part of our collective strength. Simultaneously, we must embrace the fresh perspectives and innovation that younger generations bring to the table. #ageism #agediversity

Happy New Year! Too often we struggle to navigate the complicated tension between hope and regret. Well, I think that if we draw a bit on the existential philosopher, Kierkegaard, we might find some resources for moving into this new year with hope! And, I suggest why Kierkegaard might make a good new featured artist on Jay Z's next album! Happy 65th birthday, Madonna. Whether you grew up listening to and loving her music like I did [my favorite song is Express Yourself], you can't deny that Madonna is more than an artist. She is a trailblazer, disruptor, and pro at building a brand. Here are some lessons that I think we could all learn from Madonna: 1. Think Big: no matter how, where or when you start, stick with your goals and dreams and don't stop until you seem them through. 2. Create a Community: Loyalty is hard to build and even harder to keep. Never stop building and maintaining meaningful relationships. Also, make time to give back to your community. 3. Be Fearless: Don't be afraid to step out of your comfort zone. This is where change happens. More importantly, don't wait for someone else to launch your idea. What an inspiring person to celebrate! #Madonna #Marketing #WeWillGetThere

Happy Valentine's! It's time to bring your #longevity #leadership home. 💯 There is a lot of talk of what our longer, 100-year lives will do to our careers. A lot less about what they will do to our couples. 💕 While the management literature and consulting worlds are alive with the idea of multiple careers, lifelong learning and repeated re-invention, the world of love is… silent. 👄 But how many of us, in our innocent 20s, knew we were signing up to marriages that would last 70 years or more? Would we even have understood, at that time, what that meant and who we would become? If we were more longevity literate would we be more relationally modest – or mobile? 🎼 This Valentine's, it may be time for romance to meet relational upskilling? Or ask your partner for a performance review? Some scenario planning? Or a scoping of your future revenue and budget strategy? ❤️ Whatever you choose, love on. And remember. Our lives are long. And getting longer. #love #valentinesday #couples #relationalintelligence #leadership #genderbalance Jennifer Louise Petriglieri https://lnkd.in/e5UWwm95

In her book All About Love, Bell Hooks says : "A vision articulates a future that someone deeply wants and does it so clearly and compellingly that it summons up the energy, agreement, sympathy, political will, resources or whatever to make that vision happen." Does your company have a vision that inspires you into action? Your vision should answer the question : what would be the effect on the world if your company were able to fulfil its purpose? It's not always easy to formulate. Here is an example/template of the structure of a local choir's brand strategy to help you: We #believe that music heals and unifies. Our #purpose is to provide displaced individuals a welcoming space that celebrates diversity and fosters community. Our #vision is to unite people from all walks of life and inspire a more peaceful and inclusive world. Our #focus is to use choral performances and collaborative musical experiences to support the social and cultural integration of our members. #brandstrategy #narratives #wordsmatter

In today's ever-evolving world, the notion of dictating one's life based solely on societal norms feels increasingly outdated and unjust. Yet, tragically, widows often find themselves relegated to the margins of society, their voices muted and their aspirations disregarded. However, a recent encounter with a spellbound image has revived my awareness of this issue: an elderly widow joyously celebrating the vibrant Holi festival in the sacred city of Vrindavan. Traditionally, festivals like Holi may not have provided widows with a platform for participation. Yet, in the spiritual enclave of Vrindavan, these remarkable women discover solace and belonging amidst the colorful festivities. It's a powerful reminder of the resilience and spirit inherent within every individual, irrespective of their marital status. This compelling image challenges us to confront the entrenched biases and outdated societal norms that confine widows to lives of obscurity and dependence. It's high time we acknowledge widows as autonomous individuals deserving of dignity and fulfillment. Let's rewrite the narrative, ushering in a society where widows are not sidelined but embraced as valued members of our communities. Our mission is clear: to foster inclusivity and compassion, ensuring that every individual, regardless of their life circumstances, can flourish and thrive. Let's honor widows by empowering them to live authentic lives on their own terms, thus paving the way for a future where every member of society can realize their full potential and contribute meaningfully to the collective tapestry of humanity.
