failure of a hydroprocessing reactor A vertical hydro-processing reactor failed only after 1 month operation. Penetrant testing (PT) revealed some cracks on the inner surface of the component. The cracks are mostly found to be initiated from the heat affected zone or HAZ of the weldments. [ Operate ] The Australian standard for high-pressure pipelines, AS 2885, is about 1000 pages long.  Less than 100 of those are written for pipeline operation. Observation: pipelines are in design, construction, and testing for a few years (covered in over 500 pages), and then in operation for 20, 30 or over 50 years: 100 pages. But the alternative, and valid, view is that when you get the design/construction/testing right, it follows that operation is easier. Pipeline operation elements include contract compliance, product scheduling, integrity management, repairs, in-service welding, coating repairs, emergency response, meter station operation, leak detection systems, billing, and emissions monitoring. #100wordaday #PECS OP001

Last week, we received yet another substantial contract for our Corrosion-Erosion system (CEM) from a major operator in the Middle East 👍 The ClampOn Subsea Corrosion-Erosion Monitor (CEM) continually monitors and quantifies changes in wall thickness over a large area of a pipeline. The non-intrusive, non-invasive instrument calculates the rate at which corrosion and/or erosion reduces the metal thickness of the pipe. In this way, it can provide operators with an early warning of potential failures before they occur. The instrument can be retrofitted to existing structures or installed on new pipelines before they are deployed subsea.
