MicroCity & the Innovation District At the @IASP World Conference on Science Parks and Areas of Innovation, architect Danny Esselman contributed with the VenhoevenCS architecture+urbanism #Microcity approach towards the development of these districts. Following up on his experience, the key insights Danny presented focus on proximity, synergy, and networks as preconditions: - Start from the subsurface (soil, water, and greenery) to facilitate resilient ecosystems.  - Design STPs and AOIs as cities within cities: the MicroCity approach. - Create vibrant communities and human scale mixed-use neighbourhoods. - Connectivity is key to transforming into an innovation district based on the circular economy.   IASP - International Association of Science Parks and Areas of Innovation was all about megatrends in #innovation #ecosystrems. 📣 We present the 20 winning proposals of the RE-CENTRE open call !   These are the proposals that will be funded by EUROCLUSTERS RE-CENTRE. EXHIBITION: "Re/View the Next: A Discursive Collage on Aims, Challenges and Innovations" - URBAN TRANSITIONS Sustainability needs densification. Our burgeoning cities and infrastructures call for complex systems and design agendas. We need to rethink the collective spaces of interaction within the dense urban fabric. This will require a carving out of green, social and public spheres within built up areas or previously monofunctional, inaccessible sites. The planning methodologies and digital tools enabling these transitions at an urban scale are adaptable to these tasks. Holistic planning for cities is now within our reach. Our projects XJTLU Taicang Campus (“New Learning Landscapes”), Xujiahui Sports Park (“Carving public space out of density), FOUR Frankfurt (“Sustainability needs Densification”) and Südliches Überseequartier Hamburg (“Integrative Masterplan for our times”) are some examples for this category. KRVIA Encounters 17th July 11:20 am Valecha Hall Of Portable Toolsheds Departing from the dynamic nature of Indian urbanity, Of Portable Toolsheds is a longstanding design-research initiative that forefronts the idea of ephemerality and movability as fundamental aspects of building public space: this entailed the development of co-mapping and co-design tools aimed at incorporating dissimilar stakeholders into processes of infrastructural design. The talk will frame this within a larger professional inquest, delving into the contemporary possibilities of design practices -from the object to the urban-, and the fields of action that lie outside conventional purviews. CHAAL.CHAAL.AGENCY is a design-research practice founded by Kruti Shah and Sebastián Trujillo-Torres that works between Mumbai and Bogotá. The nature of their work has allowed them to enquire into issues and potentialities particular to Global South urbanisms as templates for global imaginations, intending to trigger larger transformations and reengineer infrastructural systems through interventions involving visionary clients, allied organizations, and proactive communities. Their work ranges across scales and outcomes, between the speculative and the practical, and between different degrees of success and failure.
