🏆 Sports Industry Insights The size of the Sports Industry in the USA and the importance of the top 5 leagues for the American economy is impressive. What has caught my attention is the growth in revenue and the opportunities to explore, even in this developed market. “The sources of how sports teams and leagues make money haven’t changed much in the last 40 years. Tickets, sponsorships and broadcast rights continue to be the main revenue segments, while concessions, parking, merchandise and non-team related events fill out the income statement.” The American venue model is followed by football clubs in Europe and is probably the best way to organize sports around the world. Sports clubs, federations, leagues (no matter the sport) need to operate like a business and understand how to engage communities and create new revenue. Although revenue sources are followed around the world, when sport is managed as a business, it tends to become more attractive to fans and investors. The example of Messi's arrival in Major League Soccer is excellent for understanding this! As the article mentions, it was a "shot of rocket fuel" and generated several revenues for all teams in the league. What do you think?
