Your bigoted preference to discriminate against and isolate groups does not mean that they are nit oart of/new to society. There are also many places that either historically or in present day accept trans people, but due to "Christianity" and other practices have been changed for the worse. Interesting to see the "Next Goal Wins" film put a trans person centre stage in the Pacific context, but also the contrast of being accepted by your community and dealing with discrimination outside of it. In May 2023, the Federal Shariat Court of Pakistan declared the Transgender Persons Act 2018 incompatible with Islamic principles, which has implications for transgender rights in the country. Amnesty International has called for the government of Pakistan to reject all proposed amendments to the Transgender Persons Act 2018, which has been widely considered a positive step in the advancement of transgender rights in the country. The Protection of Transgender Persons Act 2018 in Pakistan is in critical danger, with amendments being tabled in Pakistan's Senate and National Assembly to undo key protections. Today we celebrate International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia. This year's theme is " No One Left Behind: Equality, Freedom, and Justice for All".  In the past 5 years, 11 countries have legalized marriage equality. The past 7 have seen 13 remove laws criminalizing LGBTQIA+ sexuality. These changes have been essential in progressing the world to reduce discrimination and stigma.  Unfortunately, dozen more still criminalize consensual same-sex relationships with penalties as sever as death.  Together we can honor those marginalized communities by bringing awareness to stand against fear and hate. Let's be united in protecting our vulnerable neighbors by celebrating the progress. Learn more here:

🚨 New Publication 🚨 A paper I wrote with Sarah Godsell has been published in the July Issue of Yesterday & Today Journal (Access the Journal here: https://lnkd.in/dksvWhte). In the paper, we focus on four school history textbooks in post-apartheid South Africa, and how they are used to exclude, within their written and visual texts, those South Africans who identify as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex, Queer/Questioning, Asexual, and many other identities (LGBTIQA+). “We will always stand at the forefront for the freedom and security of queer people in the Union” 🏳️🌈 Today, we welcome the adoption of the EU LGBTIQ Equality Strategy 2020-2025 by the Committee on Civil Liberties. Although Europe has been busy implementing its LGBTIQ Equality Strategy 2020-2025, we have seen that progress on LGBTIQ+ rights cannot be taken for granted. The rise of far right political forces has motivated an increase of the harassment and persecution of LGBTIQ+ persons. “Queer rights are an essential part of liberal democracy in Europe. All attacks on queer people are essentially attacks on our liberal democracy” states our Member Moritz Körner. We are working on robust legal frameworks, awareness campaigns and support networks to guarantee the safety of every person in Europe, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity. Together, we will foster a Europe where everyone feels secure, valued and free to be their authentic selves!

Transgender typically means your gender identity does not match the sex you were given at birth. Gender identity is how you feel about yourself and whether you feel more like a man, woman, neither, both, or somewhere in between. Yesterday marked the end of Transgender Awareness week and today is Trans Day of Remembrance (TDoR) to honour the memory of trans people who have lost their lives in acts of anti-trans violence in the last year. Trans folk experience prejudice, discrimination and violence on a daily basis for simply trying to live their lives. I stand in solidarity with trans liberation. How are you supporting trans people on an interpersonal level, as well as collectively? What can you do to be a better ally? Learn about trans people by educating yourself with credible resources about community, language, issues, stories, and actions. Challenge transphobic behaviour and language where you come across it. Listen and speak to transgender people. Respect people's gender. 🔍 Exploring the Struggles: Transgender Identity in India Uncovering the intricate challenges transgender individuals face in obtaining their Transgender Certificate & Identity Card in India. Aishwarya Bansal's insightful capstone project dives deep into the realities of the application process, both online and offline, revealing systemic barriers and personal struggles. Despite the promising Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act of 2019, hurdles hinder the community's progress. Through rigorous qualitative research, including questionnaires and interviews with transgender individuals, NGOs, and government officials, this study sheds light on the complexities of accessing essential documentation. We’re back with a fifth season of Strength&Solidarity! ⭐ Episode 37 looks at a vital effort in Uganda to use litigation to reverse a law that targets and inspires hatred against that country’s LGBTQ+ people. Nicholas Opiyo, director of human rights and democracy NGO, Chapter Four Uganda, is leading that litigation at the Constitutional Court. Whereas many might hope a court is a place where matters can be decided without fear or undue influence, Nicholas recalls the Court’s apparent ambivalence and avoidance back in 2014, where it avoided a definitive ruling on a similar law by nullifying it on a technicality, and he notes other signs of ambivalence in the political arena, and among international actors. In short, his analysis gives a sense of the range of factors that feed into, or have influence on a litigation strategy.
