🎓 Honored to share Risk Management insights with Future Finance Leaders🎓 It was a privilege to speak to the students of the Advanced Corporate Finance class at Schulich School of Business - York University on Risk Management, covering real-world examples of different levers and trade-offs that must be considered in search of profit optimization. Big thanks to Suhail Hafiz for inviting me to be a part of his class, and allowing me to showcase how Risk Management isn't just profoundly impactful and critical, but also intellectually stimulating and (surprising to some) fun. I was also reminded of the importance of knowledge sharing and mentorship in supporting future leaders. It feels like yesterday that I was sitting in a similar classroom, benefiting from knowledgeable professors and industry experts. Yesterday, our Advanced Corporate Finance class at the Schulich School of Business - York University had the honor of hosting Ardalan Shojaei, the Chief Risk Officer at Fig. Ardalan delivered an insightful session on the relationship between risk and return in corporate finance. During the session, we delved deep into different risk management frameworks, explored how they directly impact an organization's long-term profitability, and discussed real world case studies like the Wells Fargo cross-selling scandal. My favourite quote of the day was “Our goal is profit optimization, not loss elimination. We want to ensure we understand and are getting paid for the risk we are taking.” Thank you, Ardalan, for sharing your expertise with us! The students benefitted tremendously from your insights.
