One area in which I agree with the HR phonies, is that it takes years to change culture. One full third of employees are so dogmatic, so unimaginative that they truly cannot change one iota. "Damn it we were rewarded for X in the past, it's still X I know it!" they would say. One third of employees will go along with the new culture and do it poorly, and will need to be replaced. These people are primarily the middle and lower managers. One third of the people knew the management was a den of dipshits long before now, and do their job well, for pay. A mercenary brain. Takes years to change the 2/3.

When Covid stopped the world in its tracks back in 2020, companies were scrambling to pivot their workforce to effectively operate in a fully remote environment. Organizations were tasked with trying to understand how to best support their employees with navigating a new version of work-life integration. Research shows that participation in employee resource groups (ERGs) can boost employees' sense of community and belonging, which over time, can lead to improvements in overall employee morale and engagement. At a time where this value was more important than ever – organizations across the board saw decreased engagement and participation in the virtual ERG model. In this session, Jackie will use Grange’s journey as a case study to demonstrate how one company sought to understand the problem, develop innovative solutions, and re-invigorate engagement in this new virtual & hybrid work model. It's great to work for a company that is truly remote-first and offers flexible working along with a sensible expectation of how many hours someone should work a week. It seems obvious to me that when a company genuinely enables you to have work-life balance, and live where you want to live, you are going to be more productive and have a stronger mindset, because the rest of your life is much easier to manage. So even though my role can be full on and is very busy, I feel like I am in a good place mentally to handle this and even enjoy my work! Maybe remote doesn't work for everyone but it does for me 😎 #remote #flexibleworking
