Almost a year ago, seven leading #AI companies like #𝐀𝐦𝐚𝐳𝐨𝐧, #𝐀𝐧𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐢𝐜, #𝐆𝐨𝐨𝐠𝐥𝐞, #𝐈𝐧𝐟𝐥𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, #𝐌𝐞𝐭𝐚, #𝐌𝐢𝐜𝐫𝐨𝐬𝐨𝐟𝐭, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 #𝐎𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐀𝐈 committed to eight voluntary commitments with the 𝐖𝐡𝐢𝐭𝐞 𝐇𝐨𝐮𝐬𝐞 to ensure #safe and #trustworthy AI development. These commitments included 𝐞𝐧𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐠 AI 𝐬𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐦 𝐭𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠, 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐲, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐢𝐧𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐬𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐧 𝐩𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐦𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐤𝐬. AI regulation is both local and global, as evidenced by recent initiatives from the 𝐖𝐡𝐢𝐭𝐞 𝐇𝐨𝐮𝐬𝐞, 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐆𝟕, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐔𝐍 𝐀𝐝𝐯𝐢𝐬𝐨𝐫𝐲 𝐁𝐨𝐝𝐲 𝐨𝐧 𝐀𝐈. Regulatory approaches differ by #region, with varying responses to #GenAI advancements. The EU's 𝐆𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐃𝐚𝐭𝐚 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐑𝐞𝐠𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 (#GDPR) mandates data controllers and processors to implement appropriate 𝐬𝐞𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐦𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐞𝐬 and appoint data protection officers for certain high-risk operations. 𝐀𝐜𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐜 𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 play a crucial role in 𝐀𝐈 𝐫𝐞𝐠𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 through 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡, 𝐩𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐲 𝐚𝐝𝐯𝐢𝐬𝐨𝐫𝐲, 𝐞𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐩𝐮𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐜 𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭. They promote #ethical standards, #data privacy, and #consumer trust but face challenges related to 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐢𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐬𝐭𝐬 and 𝐢𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐛𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐫𝐬. AI regulations significantly impact both the 𝐆𝐥𝐨𝐛𝐚𝐥 𝐍𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐡 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐒𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐡, with the former setting global standards and the latter needing support to overcome resource constraints. Key concerns like #privacy, #nondiscrimination, and #autonomy must be addressed without stifling #innovation. As #India is both data producer and processor, the impact ofAI is starting to be seen in various places of impact like #employments, #research, #teaching, #services, #manufacturing, etc. How India plans to regulate the AI and what would be the potential #impact of regulations on respective #stakeholders?
