Commemorating Juneteenth: A Pivotal Moment in American History Today, we recognize and honor Juneteenth, a day of immense historical significance. On June 19, 1865, Major General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, Texas, to declare the end of the Civil War and announce the emancipation of all enslaved people. This pivotal event occurred two and a half years after President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation on January 1, 1863. The delay stemmed from the fact that the Emancipation Proclamation could not be enforced in areas still under Confederate control. It wasn't until Union forces gained control of Texas that freedom was granted to the last remaining enslaved African Americans. Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day or Emancipation Day, signifies the true end of slavery in the United States. It is a day for reflection, celebration, and a recommitment to the ongoing pursuit of equality and justice. Happy Juneteenth to all! Let us celebrate freedom and progress while acknowledging the work that still lies ahead. #Juneteenth #FreedomDay #EmancipationDay #EndOfSlavery #AmericanHistory #CelebrateFreedom

Juneteenth has become the most well-known celebration for the ending of slavery in the United States. In fact, it is viewed by some as America’s second Independence Day. The history of this important celebration is complex and often misunderstood. #Juneteenth isn’t a straightforward story of emancipation, nor did it necessarily improve conditions in short order, or across the country. Freedom was not a straight line from the Emancipation Proclamation to Juneteenth to the Civil Rights movement. In fact, there's around 100 yrs between the Revolutionary War, Juneteenth, and MLK. Individuals had to fight for every piece of freedom they experienced and the struggle for justice that started long before the war did not end with emancipation. Today, we celebrate #freedom, #perseverance, and the value of people. May we each recogize where injustice exists and champion the oppressed.

🌟ATTENTION PLEASE READ 🌟 On this Juneteenth, we honor and celebrate the profound significance of freedom and the resilience of our ancestors. It is imperative that we commemorate this day as a reminder of the long journey towards liberation and equality for all. #Juneteenth #Freedom #Resilience As we reflect on this historic day, I am reminded of the remarkable story of my maternal great grandfather, who was one of the most powerful kings to live in history. His legacy of strength and leadership lives on, despite the hardships he endured. He was tragically kidnapped, brought to the USA, and sold three times as a slave. His story is a testament to the atrocities of the past, but also to the indomitable spirit that perseveres in the face of adversity. Today, we honor his memory and the countless others who suffered under the yoke of slavery. #Legacy #Strength #Perseverance Let us use this Juneteenth as a time to reflect on our history, to educate ourselves and others, and to continue the fight for justice and equality.
