White Privilege in the Health and Science Spaces Looks like being normally Cited as the Experts, Leading Black and Brown Research as the Expert, Not having to "adapt" Interventions because they've been historically tested on, observed, and interpreted by the folk who looks like the test subjects.
White Privilege is having all of the "Father's of Theories" as the experts, All Concepts of theory and Science as the "Gold Standards" without any recognition of Previously Born theories and concepts that were not acknowledged from Black and Brown Cultures and philosophies.
White Privilege looks like Using European History and Institutions as the Standard for the World. It's being able to claim knowledge and authority of knowledge by studying and observe others, through their biased lenses, making it "evidence" and needing to validate someone's lived experience. Because their lived experience is NOT evidence of a thing nor is it valid without "Being observed by an outsider".
White Privilege looks like being able to justify this context as "the norm" and when it's questioned, highlighted and challenged, it's an offense or issue, it's not adhering to "expectations", it's being misunderstood, it's claiming the expert position of other's experiences.
It's soooo much more. I'll have to ask for permission to write about it and submit it as evidence to see if it's worthy to be approved as evidence.
Recognising White Privilege
White privilege is the advantage possessed by white people in a society that operates on racial injustice. This privilege is widespread in all areas of life, from the media to real life experiences.
White people can recognise their privilege by being proactively engaged with addressing their own life experiences and any benefits they have received over their ethnically diverse colleagues or community members. They can also engage with people of colour in conversations surrounding their privilege – whilst these conversations may feel uncomfortable, by understanding another perspective and committing to help with the anti-racism fight, white people can help to create a better future for all members of society.
