A Covenant with Our Community: Evolving with Your Needs One of the most important things in content creation, I've learned, is a covenant with your community. This goes beyond respecting and including everyone - it's about genuinely listening and responding to what you need. Our resources, Discord community, and site were built from the ground up based on your feedback. But it's also about the tone and presentation of our content. Recently, I've noticed a shift in what our community values. As layoffs slow but the number of affected individuals remains high, the need for immediate, supportive reaction content has lessened. Instead, tangible ongoing support for those struggling to find work has become more crucial. I'm focusing on three key pillars for our community: 1. Concrete Support and Resources: Continuously updating and providing effective resources, even though the success rate remains challenging. Our goal is to improve your chances and provide tangible help. 2. Enriching and Fun Content: Posting analytical, interesting, or purely fun content about games that offer a break from job-related stress and foster engaging discussions. 3. Innovative Support Strategies: Introducing new formats and events that can offer fresh support for those still looking for work. For instance, we've adjusted game work support posts to allow repeat entries for organizations still dealing with layoffs. I understand that some support posts can feel patronizing, especially after months of struggling. My commitment is to focus on concrete, helpful content while ensuring no one feels invisible. If you see others offering support that feels insincere, ineffective, or both,, consider that they may genuinely be trying their best and provide constructive feedback. We're all in this together, and my goal is to evolve with your needs, providing quality content and unwavering support. Let's continue to build a community where every gamer feels seen, heard, and valued.

Over the last year-and-a-half I’ve watched my LinkedIn feed turn into announcements of layoffs and each time it hits, it hurts my heart- strong. “Impacted” and “Open to Work” have become catchphrases that not only communicate disruption, but also something spurring a deeper search. Having navigated a couple unemployment stints in my career, I’m aware of how it rattles one’s core and disrupts a sense of self. To those who have landed new gigs, I applaud you. To those who are taking a career break, I applaud you. And to those bravely still seeking, I applaud you... and offer support. One of these things is not greater than the other. Yet socially and professionally, we’re primed to believe we’re defined by our productivity. And when that piece is taken out of the puzzle, it shakes the foundation upon which we’ve anchored a belief, and oftentimes pride, in who we are. If you’re out of work, or know someone who is, shoot me a message. I offer a listening ear. Curiosity to understand your story. Encouragement (and strategies) to take care of yourself in this process. One thing all organizations need are employees who are energized. And that's difficult to provide unless self-care is part of your pursuits. Reach out. Open to Support.

You have to be intentional with finding joy ⭐️ With the massive tech and creative layoffs this year, it was easy (at least for me) to fall into a massive depression. Leave it to my wife to snap me out of my funk and remind me that finding joy on a daily basis takes intentional focus and action 🤷🏼♂️ So, heading into 2024, I wrote some daily items on my white board that I’m committed to that will help with improving my overall attitude. Maybe it will add some value to you as well… - Exercise/Move - Get Outside for 20 mins - Eat Healthy (80/20 rule) - Bible Study & Prayer - After 5:30pm, attention goes to family and friends. Phone goes off. - Create something (even if it’s garbage) - Game on my lunch break vs scrolling ⭐️ At the end of the day, we have to remind ourselves sometimes we are dealt crap hands. But, we can either choose to sit in our misery or do something positive. Either way, it’s our choice! ⭐️ >> What will you commit to in 2024? - Taz 🥃

As news of layoffs swell across LinkedIn, so does the steps and advise. Here are a couple of things I’ve learned. 1. Apply when you are ready. For some (like myself), that was the next day. For others, that is later. The key here is not to apply out of fear but out of certainty. 2. Ask yourself not only what you want to do, but what your passions and skills lend to.

Hi LinkedIn Community, I wanted to share some thoughts on a topic: navigating the challenges of unexpected layoffs. Recently, I've experienced firsthand how quickly circumstances can change, especially in the dynamic environment of start-ups. It’s a stark reminder of the importance of resilience and adaptability in our careers. Here are a few insights I’ve gathered: Maintain Positivity: It's easy to feel discouraged, but maintaining a positive outlook and focusing on future opportunities can help navigate through tough times. Stay Prepared: In uncertain times, having an updated resume and a solid network can make all the difference. Stay connected and continually build your professional relationships. Upskill Often: Use every opportunity to learn and grow. Whether it's a new certification, a course, or simply learning from peers, continuous development is key. Seek Support: Don’t hesitate to reach out to your network for advice, support, and potential leads. The LinkedIn community is incredibly supportive, and many have been through similar experiences. Remember, setbacks are often setups for comebacks. Stay Strong, Stay Positive, and Keep Moving Forward.

To everyone out there still on the market who were impacted by layoffs, "unpredictable macroeconomic trends", the "uncertainty of an election year", etc, I know you're scared, nervous, maybe even a little mad... Just a piece of wisdom... Don't lie on your Resume/LinkedIn to make things look better or to make yourself feel less *meh* about it all. Lying on applications by adding in skills you don't have, making up responsibilities that weren't yours, changing dates so it doesn't seem like you have been on the market as long as you have, or making up references with flashy titles.. it all sounds like it could help, but it could really bite you in the ass on the other side. Be true to who you are. Own your battlescars. Know your worth. Have faith in your skills. And enjoy the time with friends and family to release the pressures of the job search. You got this. We all believe in you.

If you are in pain from the recent wave of layoffs, please take the time to process what just happened to you. The worst thing you could do is frantically jump to the next thing. If you must, please carve out a few hours a week to sit down, and write about your experience. It doesn't have to be fancy, and you don't necessarily have to share it. Writing has been used as a therepeutic tool for ages, before we ever understood how helpful it could be. - It forces you to think carefully about your feelings - It provides healing through improved understanding - It can lead you to important conversations with loved ones that can help validate what is true and good, and what is false - It can expose past mistakes, and help you prevent them in the future - It can help you express emotions like anger, frustration, and sadness, and focus them appropriately - It can help you be measured and fair about the situation, to assign blame properly, and to take on responsibility properly Writing can help you reorient yourself and feel more sure of your next steps. It can help you integrate your pain, turn it into something useful. Please, take some time for yourself - you are the most important person in this situation, and I hope you get better soon.
