During the March holidays, I visited Bangkok with my family and included activities that I'd normally not do with my wife. Bangkok was a shopping and eating haven for us, but with this being the maiden trip for my girls, I had to factor in visits to the safari park and aquarium, while factoring in some time to check out the latest mall in town, EmSphere. While the mall was a very refreshing concept (almost like a successful version of Big Box), what really impressed me was the new elevated walkway that connected Phrom Pong BTS right to the doorstep of the mall. Even in a city like Singapore where we plan everything to the tee, the Thais are the real pros when it comes to building elevated walkways. Issues such as structural loading, knock out panels, right of access, maintenance, don't see to bother them at all. Years ago I was already blown away by the R Walk in the Siam area, such a massive extent of infrastructure coordination across multiple land parcels and owners, but yet they managed to obtain the buy in from multiple stakeholders, obtain the funding to construct the elevated walkways, and keep it well maintained all these years. This new elevated walkway, while smaller in scale, has evolved to incorporate greenery and ambient lighting to make the transfer more delightful for pedestrians. To top it off, the link bridge connecting the walkway to the mall is so well designed, voluminous and lined with lush greenery. Detailing the headway we have made to create value and shape a brighter future for our communities, we are pleased to announce that our annual report for the year ending 31 December 2023 (FY2023) is now available — here are some key highlights: 📌Rejuvenating Urban Places 🏙️: Reinvigorating the iconic Singapore Land Tower through an extensive asset enhancement initiative (AEI), the tower’s façade was upgraded, and innovative flexible workspace offerings were introduced. Provisional permission from the authorities for a proposed partial redevelopment of Marina Square had also been secured, paving the way for its rejuvenation into a vibrant mixed-use precinct. 📌Transforming Retail Experiences🛍️: Guided by a focus on vibrant, community-focused retail, dining, and educational offerings, we have also commenced an AEI for West Mall. 📌Creating Desirable Homes 🏡: Our residential projects like Watten House recorded strong sales, driven by our steadfast commitment in building best-in-class living spaces that cater to customers’ evolving needs.  📌Giving Back to our Community 🤝🏻: Through #SingLandElevates, we dedicated over 1,000 hours of community service to assisting underprivileged groups. 🌟 Embracing Failure: A Path to Growth 🌟 As a Communication Director, Meditation Practitioner, and Etiquette Master, I've come to cherish the lessons learned from both successes and failures. Today, I'm excited to share an important perspective—a celebration of the journey, even when it doesn't lead to immediate triumph. Recently, we submitted Oakwood Residence Sukhumvit Thonglor Bangkok for a prestigious award. Since the beginning, I acknowledged the challenges ahead. However, we saw this as an opportunity to showcase our commitment to innovation and adaptability. This project marked a significant milestone for Oakwood, challenging us to redefine our design standards while honoring the unique preferences of the Asian market. While we may not have clinched the award, the experience was invaluable. It taught us resilience, creativity, and the importance of perseverance. As a Communication Director, I learned the following key points: Adaptability: Failure teaches us to adapt our strategies and messaging in response to changing circumstances. It's about finding new ways to communicate our brand's values and offerings effectively. Transparency: Acknowledging failure openly fosters trust and authenticity. Strategic Thinking: Failure prompts us to reassess our communication strategies and identify areas for refinement. It's an opportunity to innovate and explore new ways.
