But where to buy art? There are only two options to consider when buying art: the primary art market and secondary art market. The first option (the primary market) is based on the rules of connoisseurship, individual expertise and trust and most often pertains to works of art sold for the first time. The secondary market is almost purely governed by the age old system of supply and demand and mostly involve the trade of artworks that had previously been available on the primary market. The primary art market is driven by the art seller. Gallerists, fine art consultants, art dealers and artist themselves form part of this group of vendors.

major sports competitions like the olympics or other international events like world youth day bring tons of people to cities they’d potentially wouldn’t visit otherwise. i remember seeing museums in rio with open doors to everyone during wyd, especially, and i strongly believe this is one of the best ways to spread the word of arts & culture. unlocking cultural experiences should be mandatory in any plan for big events. populating museums and galleries with art that is not “accessible” to the main audience, creating special exhibitions focused on the interests of this particular group visiting and having spaces open for free or during more hours are a few initiatives that can change a lot. #olympicgames #paris2024 #opendoors #bigevents #culturalmanagement

Michelangelo's David is under attack. And we're not talking about Goliath. This time, the threat comes from the souvenir industry, profiteering off the iconic statue's image. 🏛️ Cecilie Hollberg, director of Galleria dell’Accademia, is fighting back. Since 2015, she's been defending David against disrespectful commercial use. She's not alone in this battle. 🎨 Italy's cultural heritage code protects artistic treasures from unauthorized and disparaging use. This law has won the Accademia hundreds of thousands in damages since 2017. Some argue that this is not just about money, rather, this is about preserving the dignity of masterpieces like David, Leonardo’s “Vitruvian Man,” Donatello’s David and Botticelli’s “Birth of Venus.” Yet, this fight raises questions. 🤔 Should institutions control how public domain images are used? Are they limiting freedom of expression? Does Michelangelo's David deserve better than to be reduced to a cheap fridge magnet or a T-shirt design? These are not easy questions to answer.
