As we come to an end on B Corp Month, I'd like to take a moment to reflect on the fantastic event we hosted last week. Here are some key insights I gathered: ✅ Businesses aspire to uphold ethical and sustainable standards but often lack clarity on initiating their ESG strategy. This is where the B Impact Assessment (BIA) comes into play! ✅ We need to refine how we communicate the essence of B Corp and the comprehensive sustainability standards it signifies. Sometimes, the B Corp logo doesn't convey its full significance to people. Breaking down the logo and its meaning into impact areas could enhance understanding. ✅ Engaging senior management in the importance of ESG initiatives can be challenging. To bridge this gap, we speak their language, present data supporting our ESG initiatives, and emphasize the efficiency gained by leveraging the (free) BIA tool rather than reinventing the wheel. ✅ Existing B Corps are enthusiastic about the movement and willingly offer mentorships or team sessions while sharing their experiences, both successes and challenges. ✅ Many businesses are doing really well in terms of sustainability, but don't have policies or says of working formalised. A B Leader can be a great support here. ✅ Each of us is responsible for supporting B Corps and raising awareness among end users. ✅ As B Leaders, we can leverage each other's expertise in impact areas and business operations to assist clients in their certification journey. Let's foster collaboration and extend support to emerging B Corps. ✅ Ireland stands out as one of the few countries offering grant support for B Corp certification. ✅ Lastly, as we have 38 current B Corps, compiling our data on team retention, revenue, consumer awareness, emissions, etc will be critical to support the movement. #bcorp #blabireland #bleader #bcorpeurope #bcorpcertified B Lab Ireland

This echoes one of the many findings in the recent N-TUTORR green paper 'Unlocking pathways'. IADT welcomes the significant announcement by Minister Catherine Martin, T.D. and her colleagues across various departments in committing to and releasing a coordinated action plan and roadmap for Ireland's creative industries. The Roadmap will define the creative industries in Ireland as occupations which utilise creativity as a means to deliver commercial success and employment. David Smith, President IADT said “I look forward to supporting the roadmap outlined here through our ambitious activities and programmes in IADT Dún Laoghaire, FilmEU - European University and the Creative Futures Academy and invite colleagues across all sectors included here to actively engage with the Roadmap”. On October 5 2023, I was honored to be able to present on NOCO Works to the National Council on Workforce Education (NCWE) at the 2023 yearly summit. Our regional model was met with interest and several folks who attended the session I led were able to share their experiences with regional workforce and economic development collaborations with which they have been involved. An interesting theme emerged regarding the discomfort and challenges that arise when we bring greater structure and organization to the work. There was a general sense that collaborations, such as ours, need to move in this direction of alignment for shared progress. However, the attendees did not have successful experiences to share in making the leap from being a loose collection of like minded individuals and entities to an organized coalition that will bring its shared energy to bear on key shared themes, with structure, resources, and shared goals. I am grateful to have been able to attend the NCWE meeting and bring these other experiences back to our fold. I am encouraged by the strong planning work that NOCO Works is doing - having a fiscal entity to work with (Community Foundation of Northern Colorado), support from Larimer and Weld County Leadership, regional Chambers of Commerce, seed funds from the Weld Trust, intense engagement of so many partners and so much more. I firmly believe NOCO Works is making essential progress in developing the required reporting structures, shared goals, shared data, as well as organizational principles and practices. NOCO Works will soon have tangible successes to report, and examples to share in other forums such as NCWE.
