“Southeast Asia is making notable strides in advancing the Women, Peace, and Security (WPS) Agenda. However, advancing WPS requires more than regional commitment; there needs to be a bridge to translate global and regional commitments into national and even local actions.” - I Gusti Agung Wesaka Puja, Executive Director. In #Thailand, 8 countries in Southeast Asia gathered to exchange experiences on WPS agenda and strengthened the regional network to build and reinforce policies and activities that ensure women to safely and actively participate in peace and security work. 🔹Last week, I had the privilege of representing Tunisian youth alongside my Youth Sounding Board peers from Egypt, Jordan, and Morocco at the annual meeting workshop on 'Driving Corporate Accountability in the MENA Region: Strategies and Opportunities.' This event, organized by the Danish Institute for Human Rights (DIHR) and the Nordic Consulting Group (NCH) under the daapdk program, supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark, shed light on the crucial intersection between businesses and human rights 💁🏻♀️ I'm curious to know: Have you ever come across cases of human rights violations by corporates? Have you used specific tools or strategies to address such issues? Let's discuss how we can collectively promote corporate accountability. #HumanRights #CorporateAccountability #MENARegion #MENAYouth #DAPP

Louis Tion and I share some thoughts about ASEAN-ROK relations and KASI. Two keywords to frame South Korea's approach towards ASEAN -- comprehensive and competitive.
As ASEAN-ROK ties approach their 35th anniversary in 2024, Sarah Teo and Louis Tion suggest that a focus on comprehensiveness and competitiveness would contribute towards shoring up their relations in the Indo-Pacific. Throwback to the incredible ASEAN+ Youth Summit organized by Indonesian Youth Diplomacy that took place on September 7th and 8th in Jakarta! I was honored to represent SDSN Youth Indonesia at this official forum for ASEAN youth engagement during Indonesia's Chairmanship at the 2023 ASEAN Summit. A+YS not only provided a platform for youth involvement but also marked the conclusion of the official ASEAN Youth Agenda 2023. It was an inspiring opportunity to contribute to discussions and initiatives that will shape ASEAN's future. Key takeaways from this journey: 1️⃣ Youth Empowerment: The summit emphasizes the importance of youth as drivers of positive change. 2️⃣ Cross-Border Collaboration: It fosters regional and global collaboration, uniting diverse backgrounds and perspectives. 3️⃣ Policy Influence: Youth actively participate in discussions, negotiations, and policy proposals to shape the region's future. 4️⃣ Personal Growth: Beyond policy, it offers opportunities for personal growth, promoting informed and engaged ASEAN citizenship. For me, this isn't just an event—it's an opportunity to be part of a transformative movement. With over 1.000 youths representing ASEAN nations and beyond. Together, we're working towards a brighter world for future generations. #ASEANYouthSummit #YouthEmpowerment #ASEAN

MIKTA Youth Initiatives was initiated to bring together young people from Mexico, Indonesia, South Korea, Turkiye, and Australia to discuss priority issues relevant to the MIKTA Group in order to empower young people by providing a platform for youth dialogue and exchange. Strengthen multilateralism is one of the MIKTA Youth Initiative Priority Issues. Overcoming these matters, it is an undeniable fact that youths play a significant role in taking part in strengthening multilateralism for more broadly areas. We believe all youths have the same potential and must have the same oppurtunities. ~~ West Sumatra is Indonesia's West Hidden Paradise. The US's Friend-shoring strategy is aimed at strengthening economic ties with countries that share common values and interests. Vietnam is a natural partner for the US in this strategy, as the two countries have a strong historical and cultural relationship. My hope: The upgraded partnership will allow Vietnam to take advantage of the US's economic and technological resources, which will help it to achieve its goal of becoming a high-income country by 2045. What's happening: President Biden and General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong announced the U.S.-Vietnam Comprehensive Strategic Partnership during a state visit to Hanoi. The partnership aims to deepen bilateral cooperation, institutional ties, and economic engagement. The United States will expand engagement and announce new initiatives to support the partnership. The initiatives include investing in the innovation economy, cooperating in science and technology, cultivating people-to-people ties, deepening trade, investment, and economic cooperation, promoting and protecting human rights, and advancing climate, energy, environment, and health cooperation. Specific initiatives include expanding USAID programs that support persons with disabilities, providing additional funding for UXO clearance and tracking activities, and enhancing bilateral engagement on trafficking in persons. The United States will also provide new programs and equipment donations worth $8.9 million to build Vietnamese capacity to fight regional and international transnational crime. U.S. and Vietnamese businesses are moving ahead with new and expanded initiatives that will increase trade and commerce between the two countries. #US #Vietnam #Partnership #Friendshoring Photo courtesy: Tuoi Tre Newspaper

Southeast Asia has a long history of innovative national and local approaches to peace and security, often led by women. The Regional Plan of Action on Women, Peace and Security of the Association of Southeast Asian States (ASEAN), launched in 2022, builds on consolidating the past and ongoing work of the region on pertinent issues relating to women, peace and security, and underlines the need to develop guidelines to support local authorities and implementing partners at national and sub-national levels for implementation and monitoring and evaluation of the plan. This localization toolkit and guidelines provide technical guidance on “how” to facilitate the implementation of the Regional Plan of Action by adapting its key provisions to national contexts.
