The decision of the court was inevitable, no one can stop private busnisses to make investments. All the euphoria around is just a communication stunt to improve the image of the European Super Liga, which was damaged during the announcement process back in April 2021. Now let's look at the more difficult part for all stakeholders involved. How will the existing governance bodies in sport strengthen their relationship with the clubs and convince them that they are the best competition for them? How will the national leagues stop the big clubs escaping from their national competitions and going to play in a competition that is more sustainable for investors and lucrative in its earnings prospects? This partnership underscores a shared commitment to safeguarding sports from competition manipulation and ensuring a fair and transparent betting environment. 🤝 "The partnership with ULIS aligns perfectly with our mission to ensure a clean and fair gambling environment," stated Ms. Rosenberg, Director of the Swedish Gambling Authority. "By joining forces with ULIS, we are enhancing our capabilities to monitor and tackle the issues surrounding competition manipulation in our country and across its board." 🔹 The Swedish Gambling Authority is an established entity tasked with ensuring the legality, safety, and reliability of Sweden's gaming and gambling market. The Premier League, EFL, The FA & WSL have agreed to a new code of conduct for betting related sponsorship deals. Taking effect from the start of the 24/25 season the voluntary code has 4 pillars: ⚽️Protection ⚽️Social Responsibility ⚽️Reinvestment ⚽️Integrity Last year all PL clubs agreed to remove betting sponsorship from the front of matchday shirts by the end of the 25/26 season. So far 4 PL clubs have signed 2 year deals which will conclude before these new regs take effect.

🇩🇪⛔ A new study has warned that nearly half of Germany's online gambling activity is taking place on unlicensed websites. The University of Leipzig study, jointly commissioned by the German Online Casino Association (Deutscher Online Casinoverband e.V.) and Sports Betting Association (Deutscher Sportwettenverband), found that the country's Interstate Treaty on Gambling, which came into force in July 2021, is missing its key goal of ensuring that Germany's online gambling activity takes place on websites which are licensed to operate in the country. Betano, a company based in Upper Austria, is the first sports betting provider in UEFA's history to sponsor a European Football Championship – this year's EURO 2024. This connection can already be seen as problematic as the company profits from gambling addiction. Another controversial fact is that the business was recently convicted in Germany, as it has been operating for years without a gambling licence. While the company is an international player in the market, it is relatively unknown in its country of origin. Thanks to a national peculiarity, Austria is attractive to many betting providers: it is the only country in the EU that classifies sports betting as a game of skill rather than a game of chance. While games of chance are subject to stricter laws, games of skill are not uniformly regulated but a matter for the federal states, leading to legal confusion and a grey market. These types of companies also face no advertising restrictions. As a result, international betting providers operate in Austria without a licence and adequate player protection. It’s very simple. The sooner that private equity and investor interests leave football, the better. This is all driven by greedy people putting the further bloating of their gargantuan wealth and egos before any sporting, social or environmental considerations. Football should be owned by fans and philanthropists. Could even be benefactor, local corporations. But not by organisations paid up to the eternal greed-and-growth model of Wall Street. There’s no end-game and you just aim to get bigger and bigger. That is not compatible with sports, which fundamentally have to be designed around constraints. The best future for football lies in a reset. Perhaps even full decommercialistion and amateurisation. Go and watch a local amateur team at the weekend. It’s great fun. Arguably just as enjoyable as sat on the sofa watching the big stars. Different but still fun.
