Illustrating Feeling Some days we don't feel good, everything feels blue .We don't find the our favourite work interesting anymore and everything feels dull. In those kind of days I can't draw anything , can't even draw a line precisely , can't build any concept and little things takes hours to draw. So I dedicate this one to those kind of days, when I don't feel to draw , not even think anything and any idea I get can't connect . In our conversation that Melissa Hefferlin and I had with Barry Moser, the world-renowned illustrator, artist, and printmaker, he talks about the distinction of illustration vs. fine art. It made my ears perk up and had me sit up straight, when he introduced storytelling and subject matter into the distinction of weather an image is fine art or not. If there is no storytelling, no subject matter to the visual then the image will have very little to convey, not matter if it’s an illustration or a “stand alone” painting (or photo!). The distinction is never about the mode of delivery, or technique of the artist, but about the context and meaning of what the artist wants to convey. Without context, no meaning, and no art, is how I would put that. I'm designing a new class on breaking out of a creative rut (this is focused on photography but is applicable to writing, art, marketing, sales; really anything that forces you to lead and not follow). I think this has been on of my favorite classes to design. It is really opening my mind to looking at problems from different perspectives. I person do things like self assignments, doing different styles outside my comfort zone, and setting limits like which lens to use for photography. What are peoples favorite ways to break out of a rut? And do you think this will be an interesting class??

Quality over quantity is bullshit. I hear this all the time. But as a creative, quantity LEADS to quality. ➔ Improving as a designer requires creating lots of designs.  ➔ Improving as a photographer requires taking lots of photographs. ➔ Improving as a video-editor means editing a lot of videos. The most important task my art professor gave me at uni was to produce 30 paintings in 1 week. I was too focused on producing the perfect painting, and it stunted my progress. Now, when I’m designing logos for a brand. I’m not spending all of my time creating one “perfect idea”. No. I’m iterating, and developing tons of different ideas, over and over again. Leading to more and more new ideas. Until one of them hits the nail on the head. 🪩 One that is true quality. What kind of art are you creating? My daughter had a blast creating this yesterday! I realized over time my passion for art truly has allowed me to tap into the art of business. For those that don't know I originally wanted to be an artist. I have books, binders, canvases covered in all types of medium. My favorite was acrylic where it looks like a water color. My classes in college were graphic design and marketing focused. Here's how I think they tie together: -Art to create a feeling -Art to build upon layers -Art to adjust when it's not turning out right -Art to visualize the end picture I'd argue business is art.
