The election isn’t what scares me. I’ve seen elections before. This will be my tenth general election. I’m far more worried about the prospect of violence, both from the Republicans attempting to suppress votes during it, and the armed insurrection that will follow when they lose again. The elections only work when everyone commits to them. It takes two to declare peace. Declaring war only takes one. By my count, Republican gun owners outnumber Democratic gun owners by about eleven to five. The Republicans have already published their plans for a dictatorship in Project 2025. Nobody commits an insurrection, writes a 922-page document about establishing a dictatorship, corners the market on guns, and then accepts the results of the election when they lose.
