Association of Zoos and Aquariums’ Post

🐾 Code Red Panda Alert! 🐾 The first thirty days of a red panda cub's life are critical, and the dedicated animal health and care teams at the Seneca Park Zoo Society are on high alert, nurturing their adorable new cub born in June. The cub's mother, Raji, arrived from Rosamond Gifford Zoo last year as part of the AZA's Red Panda Species Survival Plan®. Unfortunately, she abandoned her cub, which is not uncommon for first-time red panda mothers. The zoo decided to bottle-feed the cub, which is being monitored and fed around the clock, and is gaining weight appropriately. 🌳 Red pandas are endangered and face extinction in their native range in the eastern Himalayas and southwestern China due to #Deforestation, habitat loss, and #ClimateChange. Seneca Park Zoo supports the protection of endangered red pandas through fundraising, providing over $30,000 in grants to the Red Panda Network to help protect vital forest habitats. 🧡 In Connect, you can learn more about the #RedPandas at Seneca Park Zoo: https://bit.ly/4fAUHlw. #ZooBaby #ZooBorns #RedPanda #AnimalHealth #EndangeredSpecies #SSP #Rochester #Syracuse #NewYorkState
