Did you know that Bright Pink, an NGO focused on preventing breast and ovarian cancer in young women, founded Call Your Doctor Day in 2016? Bright Pink founded the holiday to encourage women to schedule their yearly well-women exams. If you’re a woman, this is a reminder to call your doctor to schedule your exam today! Even if you’re not, consider organizing an event and inviting a local doctor to speak about the importance of regular health check-ups.

April is Testicular Cancer Awareness Month, and as The Glaucomfleckens, we’re here to remind you to keep an eye on the prize—your health, that is! 🏆🩺 This month it's important (begrudgingly) acknowledge that eyeballs are not the only important balls to check on your body. It's a crucial step in catching signs of testicular cancer early. Think of it as a monthly subscription to your health - no fees, just feels. Remember, early detection is key. It’s like catching a typo before hitting send on an important email - the sooner, the better. Let’s not make testicular cancer the autocorrect fail of your health. Check yourself, and then double-check with a doctor if you’re unsure. Together, let’s kick cancer where it hurts, and keep all our balls in check. Share this message, because caring is all about sharing - especially when it comes to health tips that could save a life. Or two. 😉 #TesticularCancerAwareness #CheckYourself #HealthIsNoJoke #ButWeStillMakeJokes #TheGlaucomfleckens

Lung Cancer Awareness Month 2023 I lost my first official mentor and friend to Small Cell Lung Cancer. John was a tough Boston ED Nurse who led me down the path that undoubtedly affected who I am as a person and a professional today. Well over a decade ago, the science just wasn't there yet. Today, we see science evolving every day and I am beyond proud to be part of the equation. I live in Maine where there are still a lot of smokers, low access to healthcare and high levels of Radon along with other environmental toxins. All of these risk factors highlight the importance of asking your Physician if you should get screened. Here's what you can do for yourself or loved ones: 1. Make your house and car clean air zones, with no smoking allowed. 2. Avoid places that are not smokefree, and advocate for smokefree air policies in restaurants, bars, casinos or anywhere they are not in place. 3. Test your house for radon. 4. Reduce your exposure to unhealthy outdoor air. See the state-by-state breakdown in the link below to see how your state stacks up against the rest for several data points. Together we can all make a difference for patients and families. #lungcancerawarenessmonth #screeningsaveslives #nursesonlinkedin #smokingcessation #primaryprevention #tellafriend #getscreened #patientsfirst
