Redwood Credit Union (RCU) has a rich history and a wide-reaching impact in its community. Here are some fun and interesting facts about Redwood Credit Union: Community Reach and Size: Redwood Credit Union serves over 415,000 members across several counties including Sonoma, Marin, Napa, San Francisco, Mendocino, Lake, Contra Costa, and Solano. As of July 31, 2022, it is the largest credit union in the North Bay, boasting $7.6 billion in assets. It's the 37th largest credit union in the U.S. among approximately 5,200 credit unions and the 8th largest in California out of 300. RCU operates 19 branch locations, with 18 in the North Bay and 1 in San Francisco. They also provide over 30,000 free network ATMs and an out-of-network ATM fee reimbursement program for members. History and Development: Founded in 1950 by seven employees of the County of Sonoma, it later changed its name to Redwood Credit Union in 1982 to reflect the increased demand for affordable financial services in the North Bay. By 2004, RCU's membership had reached 100,000 and by 2007, its assets had grown to $1 billion. They also moved into a new corporate building in Santa Rosa, CA, which is recognized as a silver LEED-Certified green building. Recognition and Awards: RCU has been recognized by Forbes as one of "America's Best Small Employers 2023". It has received the title of the healthiest credit union in California and ranked sixth healthiest in the nation among large credit unions. The credit union has also been acknowledged as the "Best Credit Union" by the readers of Press Democrat every year and has achieved numerous other accolades including a 5‐Star Bauer Rating and an A+ Excellent Rating from Weiss Ratings. Community Impact and Services: RCU is committed to helping its members improve their lives and making a positive difference in the community. It has been active in this regard since 1950, aiding people in achieving their financial goals and dreams. The credit union offers a full range of financial services for both personal and business use, including checking, savings, loans, credit cards, investments, insurance, and auto purchasing/brokerage. Employee Base: Employing 720 individuals, RCU contributes significantly to local employment. Moreover, RCU has been named one of the best places to work for the 17th consecutive year by the North Bay Business Journal. If you ever look at the tags on our social media posts and wonder, "Who are they?" we'll tell you now. They're our partners, and we couldn't do what we do without them. There's a lot to running an organization like ours and while we greatly appreciate when people give us money, we also benefit from the guidance and steering that these groups give us. As a group barely a year old, we soak up all the tips and lessons that our partners can give us. It's also a sign of how things should be in the nonprofit world. We need to help each other. There is competition for resources, yes, but there's also plenty of opportunity for collaboration and referrals. A volunteer who may be unsuited for one agency could thrive in a different one. For example, someone who signed up to help at an animal shelter may find out the hard way that pet dander is not their friend. But walking dogs for a group like Elderdog is right up their alley. Yea it’s a five minute video, who watches those anymore! However, if you followed us over the course of Serve Week 2024 (The Ocho) this is an awesome wrap up and great work by the team. We try and use LinkedIn to open a window into our culture. And while Foundry Commercial isn’t perfect and we will always have work to do in pursuit of our standards, I think this is one of the things we get really right. What a great organization helping another great organization

The objective is good but NOT the timing!!

We have been in operation for over 20 years and we are still asked, "What is it that you do?" It is a very good question, however, a better question to ask would be "what is it that you don't do?". Having been involved with SNVB for a few years, I can assure you that there isn't much that we don't do. We don't just organise journeys for our passengers to attend their medical appointments. We don't just ensure that community members have access to food. We don't just maintain gardens for community members who are no longer able to because of their health or circumstances. We build relationships with our members. We listen when they feel that no-one else is listening. We reassure them that they are not a nuisance. We support them when they have no one else to turn to. We ensure that they are not sat at home in the dark without any heating because they are scared that they cannot afford the increased energy costs. We assure them that we will help them and follow it through to ensure that they receive the help and support that they are entitled to. We assist them with accessing information online because they either don't have the technical know how or the equipment to do it themselves. The number of times that one of our volunteer drivers has turned up at a passengers property to find that they are not answering. Anyone else might assume that the passenger has gone out or found another way of attending their medical appointment. We have saved the lives of seven passengers because we do not assume. Not ever. Many charities will face closure because they are unable to continue with rising costs and inadequate funding from their local authority. Every charity is required and expected to keep doing more and more, for less. We do not work the hours we are paid for. We work DOUBLE the hours we are paid for. Yet, we find ourselves worrying about what charity is going to close next because the impact that it will have on their community will be hugely detrimental. If you have taken the time to read this, THANK YOU. For charities it isn't a case of "use us or lose us", it is a real case of "support us or lose us".
