Unlocking the Space Economy for All | Space Lawyer | Worked on: Amazon Project Kuiper, GALILEO, EGNOS | Why care? Space is the New Frontier with $ trillions in assets, and it can’t be the new Wild West. #SpaceForGood
Will you watch it? 📽️🚀🤩 "Wild Wild Space" is a new HBO Original documentary premiering on July 17, 2024. Directed by Academy Award-winning filmmaker Ross Kauffman, the film explores the intense rivalry between Chris Kemp of Astra and Peter Beck of Rocket Lab as they compete in the commercial space industry. That ought to be intense! 😅 Inspired by Ashlee Vance's book "When the Heavens Went on Sale," the documentary chronicles the modern-day race to launch satellite-carrying rockets into low Earth orbit. It features interviews with industry leaders and showcases the triumphs and setbacks of these companies. The film also examines the broader implications of the commercial space boom, including environmental impacts, privacy concerns, and the potential militarization of space. With a runtime of 1 hour and 33 minutes, "Wild Wild Space" seems to offer a comprehensive look at the high-stakes competition to control humanity's next frontier, and I'm definitely adding it to my (long) list of spacey things to watch! Space Trash Signs: Navigating the Consequences of Space Pollution - By Serviceplan Group As humanity’s ventures into space expand, so does the issue of orbital debris. Currently, Earth’s orbit is cluttered with more than 160 million fragments of human-made space junk. These objects hurtle through space at speeds of up to 15 kilometers per second, posing substantial risks. Even a small fragment has the potential to inflict considerable damage. The proliferation of space pollution jeopardizes vital space infrastructure essential for terrestrial life, including telecommunications, navigation systems, disaster response capabilities, environmental monitoring, agricultural practices, financial services, and beyond. The Space Trash Signs initiative, set to coincide with the United Nations Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (UN COPUOS) session in June 2024, aims to raise public awareness about space pollution. Supported by aerospace firms, space agencies, scientists, universities, activists, museums, and media worldwide, the initiative proposes the creation of unique astronomical constellations composed of space debris. Each “trash sign” symbolizes a distinct impact of space pollution. What resolution of satellite imagery do you need? 👀 10 m resolution is suitable for large areas. But it will not provide any details – for example ships won’t be at all identifiable. 1 m provides some level of detail but markings such as a ship’s name are not legible and measurements won’t be accurate. 👉 30 cm is the highest amount of detail commercially available and necessary if your goal is to identify objects. #maritime #maritimeindustry #maritimeinnovation #remotesensing Satellite image © 2024 Maxar Provided by European Space Imaging

#ServiceplanInnovation introduces constellations made from space debris 🚀 As space exploration deepens, so does the problem of space debris. More than 160 million pieces are floating around at speeds of up to 15 kilometres per second, threatening essential services such as communications, navigation and environmental protection. The #SpaceTrash initiative by #ServiceplanInnovation and Mediaplus Group is raising awareness of the problem in time for the United Nations committee meeting in June. Together with Steve Wozniak's Privateer Space, Astroscale, and OKAPI:Orbits, and with the support of global partners including the European Space Agency - ESA Astronomers Without Borders, and the Deutsches Museum, it highlights the issue of space pollution by creating new constellations of debris. Each unique 'debris sign' highlights a different threat that space pollution poses to our planet. The collaboration included designstudio Eat, Sleep + Design and Moby Digg, development studio Owls Department, sound designers Jürgen Branz and Christoph Groß-Fengels, type designer Michael Clasen from Kimera, CGI artists Nonzero and Raghavendra Rao, production by peoplegrapher GmbH and media coordination by Mediaplus Group. "Called Space Trash Signs, the project is a result of a collaboration between space sustainability company Privateer Space, German design agency Moby Digg, visual artist Frank Gräfe and communication agency Serviceplan Innovation. The space trash constellations can be explored on a dedicated website, in star-gazing apps and in a special program shown in planetariums worldwide. The goal of the project is to draw attention to the growing problem of #SpaceDebris ahead of a meeting of the United Nations Committee of the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space in June, which will discuss measures needed to keep space around Earth in order, the authors said in a statement. ....#AI was used to find patterns in Privateer's data, and the constellations were then timestamped to mark the moment in which they were discovered, the project's spokesperson told Space.com in an email. Clicking on every node of every constellation reveals information about the debris object that makes up the node including its size range, name and the expected cost of its removal from orbit." Fantastic idea! Links in comments. #Space #Art #Installation #Constellation #Data #Inspiration #Sustainability
