Thanks to SpaceNews for giving attention to the important issue of space safety and sustainability. While there is widespread support for safety and sustainability, critical gaps remain that we can work together to address. I'm hoping to pick up conversations about this important topic with many of you at #SpaceSymposium this coming week. #39space #spacesafety #spacesustainability https://lnkd.in/d6CJGn8F Together, we can proactively plug space safety gaps With a growing presence in space, we must also have a growing focus on and consideration of space safety and new risks.

Launch: the charismatic megafauna of space. Like a lion, launch is loud, fiery, hazardous — and awesome. Yes, it’s just the beginning of a mission, but what a beginning. ADRAS-J’s work has just begun, but for now, a mega-shoutout to Rocket Lab, Astroscale, and JAXA for a fantastic start to a groundbreaking mission. And special thanks to Akira Yoshida, Satoshi Ito, Alison Howlett, Morgan Bailey, and James Rattray for being absolute pros on launch comms/PR. 🚀🛰️💪 #ShowthewayADRASJ 🔎 #spacesustainability

The ADRAS-J mission entails the first ever approach of actual space debris and it's paving the way for future on-orbit servicing and commercial space debris removal by Astroscale. The spacecraft, delivered into orbit Sunday by Rocket Lab, will approach a defunct upper stage from a Japanese H-IIA rocket that has been circling Earth for more than 15 years. This mission will enable to validate key technologies for on-orbit servicing, such as safely approaching an object, observing the object (assess its spin rate, spin axis, and the condition of its structure) and collect sufficient data to proceed with the next phase. Indeed, the proposed follow-on mission will actually go up and grab onto the same H-IIA upper stage and remove it from orbit. 🛰

Innovator in Disruptive Impact: Origami-Based Circular Architectural Techniques | Championing Radical Collaboration in Construction | Creating Sustainable Habitats on Earth and Beyond | Climate Mayor, Rotterdam
Why am I targeting space innovators for collaboration? - Space Scientists have known about the climate crisis and acted accordingly - Space Engineers have practiced the System Change and Circular Design principles - Also, in my view, the Space Circular Economy is the only successful model both financially and environmentally Why should the space industry be interested in working with me? Together, we: - Tackle the climate-housing crisis on Earth - Save billions Euros & Dollars on the Moon & Mars Habitats This is the promise! Chair and Founder of the Australian Centre for Space Governance; Deputy Director (Mission Specialists) at ANU Institute for Space; Co- founder of Australian Space Diversity Alliance
Glad to see it being spelled out at this level by Richard DalBello that space sustainability is more than just dealing with space debris and space traffic. It's about the untenable ongoing increase in launches, the need for equitable access to space, the need to protect dark skies, the need to consider the environmental and potential cultural heritage impacts of lunar activities. And the case for the commercial sector to take all of this seriously is that their business models depend on space remaining accessible, usable (and frankly, politically stable) https://lnkd.in/eTz5c3Uv
Space industry urged to take a broader view of sustainability

We are thrilled to share the recently published Zero Debris Charter. The Charter represents a collective stride towards ensuring a safe and sustainable space environment 🌎. It is an honour for us at iSEE - Impact Space Expedition and Exploration to have joined the latest co-development workshop, witnessing the community's dedication in crafting this pivotal document alongside European Space Agency - ESA. We stand committed to the Charter’s guiding principles and targets for 2030. It's inspiring to see the space sector unite under such an ambitious and significant cause 🤝, and we're proud to support this initiative with our innovative solutions: • To minimise the unintentional generation of space debris 💥 • And to improve knowledge and understanding of the population of space debris of all sizes 🔭. The Charter not only embodies the spirit of collaboration but also aligns seamlessly with iSEE’s mission. Our proven in-orbit technology is at the forefront of detecting and measuring debris particles, providing essential data that reinforces the Charter's objectives through: • Keeping the probability of collisions below 1 in 1000 per object during the entire orbital lifetime, and • Enabling access to timely and accurate data on space objects down to a size of 1 mm or even smaller. In the coming weeks, iSEE will be at SpaceTech Expo and other events to echo the importance of the Zero Debris Charter. Follow us and stay tuned on this important matter🔔 #ZeroDebrisCharter #SpaceSustainability #iSEE #InOrbitTechnology #SpaceDebris
