If there is someone here who is willing to assist in the preservation of Parade Park Homes Inc, a long-standing housing complex for individuals with limited income, I am reaching out for help. We are the first and oldest black cooperative in the United States, established in the late 50s. Unfortunately, due to the actions of elected board members, the City of Kansas City, Housing Development, and several management companies hired by Parade Park Homes Inc, significant damage has been caused to our homes and the people who reside here. We are determined to save and renovate this community, restoring it to its former glory. It is disheartening to see black communities throughout the United States being taken over by the city and gentrified, erasing our presence. My name is Jamie Marzett, and my mother Janet Marzett played a pivotal role in founding this cooperative to help black individuals attain ownership and save money for their future house, which they can then sell to the next generation, and so on. While our community requires work, it is not in such bad shape that it needs to be demolished, as some claim. My father was the original maintenance man, and I grew up here, working as a groundskeeper and in maintenance. I am passionate about saving this community, and I believe that investing in people's lives is just as important, if not more so, than investing in buildings and infrastructure. Unfortunately, I have been attempting to secure funding, even if it sounds far-fetched, to purchase and renovate the complex while keeping it affordable for low-income residents. Despite the demand for affordable housing in Kansas City, and in every state in the country, there is a lack of options available. This complex consists of over 500 units, with the potential for expansion. It's a funny dream of mine. I wish I was that guy, I think it was the guy who owns Amazon, who gave somebody $1 billion to do something. I wish that was me because anybody who knows me knows I’ll do good with that money. But unfortunately, God doesn't like me that well, but I'm getting off track. It's just a dream of mine. However, I am dire need of assistance because Housing in Urban Development took over our loan and want to put it on the auction block and the city of Kansas City wants to purchase it like they’ve always wanted to do for decades and get rid of us to the highest bidder and I have to stop this from happening onlyIf I had money good investors I would acquire properties throughout Kansas City to provide aid and prevent individuals from being left homeless. This is my plea to those who are genuinely committed to saving lives and helping new families get a fresh start. Thank you. For serious inquiries, please contact me at my email at [email protected].
