Following an almost 21% surge in its first trading session on the New York #Stock Exchange, Rubrik, a cybersecurity company sponsored by Microsoft, is now valued at $6.77 billion. The firm now joins a group of businesses that have enjoyed successful IPO returns in the wake of expectations for a soft landing, that is, a decline in inflation without a recession or significant job losses. Businesses are now more susceptible to hostile online assaults due to the quick adoption of cloud apps for data transit and storage, which has increased demand for cybersecurity #services. More than 6,100 clients, including the world's largest snack and beverage company, PepsiCo, investment bank Goldman Sachs, and manufacturer of appliances Whirlpool, rely on Palo Alto, California-based Rubrik for data protection solutions. Rubrik, formerly known as ScaleData, is a rival to companies that provide data #management and security, such as IBM, Dell EMC, Cohesity, Commvault, and Veeam. Despite being created in late 2013, Rubrik didn't start providing #goods and services until the fiscal year that concluded on January 31, 2016. Bipul Sinha, a venture partner at Lightspeed Venture Partners, a Silicon Valley technology investment firm, serves as its CEO and co-founder. In 2021, Microsoft contributed ownership to Rubrik as part of a $4 billion funding deal for the firm. The startup has also received backing from venture capital companies Greylock #Partners and Lightspeed. Rubrik sold 23.5 million shares for $32 apiece, beyond the $28 to $31 range company had previously promoted, in its enlarged initial public offering (IPO), raising $752 million. A syndicate of over a dozen banks, including Wells Fargo #Securities, Barclays, Citigroup, and Goldman Sachs, underwrote the IPO. www.tycoonstory.com #RubrikIPO #rubrik #CybersecurityStock #CloudSecurity #SoftLanding #IPOMarket #EconomicRecovery #CloudVulnerability #DataProtection #CybersecurityNeeds #EnterpriseSecurity #RubrikClients #DataSecuritySolutions #cybersecurity #datasecurity #cloud Rubrik Microsoft Prayag Jain Mohan Raghu Garimella Dipendra Singh Harkirat Singh Sahil Jain

Here's why Wiz's rejection of Google's $23 billion acquisition offer is a pivotal moment for cybersecurity: 1) Market Validation and High Valuation: Google's willingness to pay 46x Wiz's forward revenue underscores the immense value that cloud security companies hold for major tech firms and should hold for public market investors, given their growth potential. Consider that CrowdStrike currently trades at 46x operating free cash flow. 2) Investor Confidence and ARR Track Record: Wiz has demonstrated phenomenal growth since its inception in 2020, achieving $500 million in ARR within 4.5 years (world record for a cybersecurity firm). The rejection of Google's offer indicates that Wiz's shareholders believe the company holds significant IP. 3) Industry Dynamism and Growth Potential: Wiz's rapid growth trajectory demonstrates that dynamism is still alive in the cybersecurity industry, especially at a time when we've seen muted investor sentiment and an increasing belief that the sector has reached a saturation point. Assaf Rappaport's Leadership: Assaf Rappaport, co-founder and CEO of Wiz, has shown exceptional leadership by guiding the company through this rapid growth since founding the company just 4.5 years ago. His decision to pursue an IPO reflects his confidence in Wiz's potential. Rappaport has also achieved previous success with Adallom, which was sold to Microsoft in 2015. His goal of achieving $1 billion in ARR before an IPO highlights a disciplined approach to organic growth and value creation, and also underscores his confident in Wiz's team and their ability to execute. IPO Pipeline: Wiz's confidence in pursuing an IPO will send a strong message to other companies in the cybersecurity IPO pipeline. The choice to reject consolidation into a larger entity like Google suggests that the cybersecurity sector is not yet ready for consolidation into a small number of dominant players (we're not yet going to see a Cyber-Mag8!) Valuation Disparity: We note a significant disparity in valuation between private cybersecurity companies and their public counterparts. Yes, this valuation gap has been exacerbated by a broader sell-off in the cybersecurity stocks following the recent CrowdStrike incident, however, historically, valuation convergence between public and private markets has been observed. Therefore, we believe now may present an attractive entry point. After all, the world is only going to get more digital, to paraphrase the wise words of Confucius. Summary: Rubrik, a data cybersecurity company, has filed for an IPO after raising over half a billion dollars while private. This could indicate a warming IPO market for tech companies. Key takeaways: Rubrik has shown moderate growth with increasing subscription revenue, which has helped boost its gross margins. Despite its recurring revenue and improving gross margins, Rubrik still faces significant losses. The company's ties to Silicon Valley A-listers, including a former partner at the venture capital firm that led its Series A, highlight the personal networks that can have an impact on raising capital. Counter arguments: Rubrik's steep losses may deter investors, especially as the shift from licenses to a subscription model can be costly. The company's cash burn may also be a concern, although its upfront collection of ratable revenue has helped limit its net operating cash outflows. #IPO #publicmarkets #tech

Leaving the mothership? Divesting from a parent company has a ton of complexity. From operations, HR, legal, and finance, you've got a lot to figure out. Then, you also have to plan and execute the IT migration. It's like buying a new car. While driving your existing car, and jumping over while everything is still in motion. Data, services, integrations, capabilities all have to be maintained (or improved). Security can't get lost in the shuffle. I've architected successful divestitures for major finance companies and utility billing companies. They were able to architect a greenfield cloud environment, migrate all data, and with a single weekend cutover, be up and operating on a Monday in their new world. Facing similar issues? It doesn't take a divestiture to need to do the same thing. Are you looking for temporary leadership to support your team to ensure success? If so, let's talk!

Reputation matters in business—and the annual Fortune World’s #MostAdmiredCompanies list is the ultimate reputation power ranking. bit.ly/490aExV The more than 3,700 executives, directors, and analysts polled in this effort by our partners at Korn Ferry have a good sense of how they are viewed by the people who matter. So what can we learn from this year’s list? Well first of all, when it comes to reputation, tech rules. Apple is No. 1, Microsoft No. 2, and Amazon No. 3. “But that’s why I think special credit should be given to legacy companies who continue to rank well,” writes Fortune CEO Alan Murray.

Founded in 2013, Rubrik has developed a data management and security SaaS platform for enterprises and has become a market leader in cyber-resilience. The Company went public in the first IPO of 2024 on the NYSE under the “RBRK” ticker on April 25, 2024, raising $752m at an implied valuation of $5.6b (i.e., 6 times forward sales). I breakdown Rubrik’s S-1 using our firm's #AdvancedGrowthIntelligence methodology whose performance should provide broader insights into the appetite for tech public offerings, and more specifically on that of high-growth unprofitable tech companies. ❓ To what extent will public investors prefer high-growth (Subscription revenue is growing at an impressive 47%) vs. profitability? Is Rubrik's growth sustainable over the long-run? #tech #ipos #SaaS #publicmarkets D'Ornano + Co.
