Global semiconductor production, driven by artificial intelligence and electronic vehicles, is expected to grow nearly 14% this year and has no plans to slow down anytime soon. In the U.S. alone, more than $200 billion has already been invested in new chip making facilities since the 2022 CHIPS and Science Act passed. What is driving this growth in other countries? The research report released by SIA and BCG today is a great indication that the CHIPS Act is successfully galvanizing private sector investment in U.S. manufacturing and promoting supply chain resilience. Important for policymakers and industry to build on this momentum and continue to enhance U.S. competitiveness.
"US chip production is poised to explode in coming years, helping ease a risky dependency on East Asia, according to a projection by the Semiconductor Industry Association." “We’ve always said that the Chips Act was a strong first step, but we’re going to need more to get to the promised land,” SIA Chief Executive Officer John Neuffer said in an interview. “Our industry fully understands that we have an over-concentration of manufacturing in East Asia.” #CHIPSActImpact
