Chief audit executives consider cybersecurity, human capital and business continuity the top three risks facing their organizations, according to the Global Risk in Focus series of reports from the Internal Audit Foundation. The series shows CAEs expect digital disruption and climate change to become significantly higher risks during the next three years.

What do we think about topical requirements? The IIA has issued their first topical requirement on Cyber Security for consultation. These requirements complement the new standards and provide structure for frequently audited topics that are typically higher risk and pervasive in nature. When a specific topic becomes the focus of an internal audit engagement, Topical Requirements must be considered as additional mandatory guidelines. Whilst I am all for providing support to ensure a consistent methodology in the profession we have to be careful not to use it as a shortcut to robust scoping and rather incorporate these within our own planning processes. On Tuesday the Institute of Internal Auditors (The IIA) released its new Global Internal Audit Standards . Among the notable changes introduced by the IPPF Evolution project are: 1. Strengthening governance frameworks to improve organizations’ responsiveness to rapidly changing business environments. 2. Specific guidance to assist internal auditors in the public sector and for small internal audit functions. 3. A more flexible framework that can adapt to the unique challenges faced by auditors in different parts of the world. 4. Specific guidance and standards on critical areas like cybersecurity. The Global Internal Audit Standards become effective in January 2025. #internalaudit #standards
