Cities account for two-thirds of global energy consumption and 70% of global emissions, meaning they can play an invaluable role in decarbonization. Energy efficiency is the ‘first fuel’ for clean energy transitions and is often the quickest and the most cost-effective carbon mitigation option. New York City’s Local Law 97 on energy efficiency and emissions has already had real impact and can serve as leading example for other cities. https://hubs.la/Q02740_20

🌟 Exciting News Alert! 🌟 Governor Newsom has taken a significant stride towards advancing California's sustainability goals with the signing of Senate Bill 48, the Building Energy Savings Act (SB 48), on October 7th. Authored by Sen. Josh Becker (D-Menlo Park) and proudly sponsored by IMT among others, this groundbreaking Act mandates the California Energy Commission (CEC) to leverage data from the state's existing building energy benchmarking and transparency law. The goal? To formulate a robust strategy for decarbonizing California's large existing buildings. In its 2021 Integrated Energy Policy Report (IEPR), the CEC advocated for the adoption of a statewide building performance standard, recognizing the urgent need for sustainable solutions. Notably, four other states and eight U.S. localities have already embraced BPS. Click on the link to read more! Together, let's champion sustainability and pave the way for a greener, more resilient future! 🌿💡 #BuildingEnergySavings #SB48 #SustainabilityMatters #CaliforniaEnergyCommission #GreenFuture https://ow.ly/WN8G50QJzLs

Between Aug. 1, 2022, and Aug. 28, 2023 nearly 80% of all capital investments were to help transition away from fossil fuels, based on the state’s “Transparent Tennessee” business tracker btw. #ClimateProgress The manufacturing surge is linked to the Inflation Reduction Act, the nation’s first major climate law that provides incentives for companies making clean technologies that cut greenhouse gas emissions that cause climate change. https://lnkd.in/gW9C9CQP

Great conversation today on the Future of Energy panel at the LULAC 75th California Convention on Empowering & Building Strong Latino(a) Communities. Thanks to our moderator Argelia Leon of WSPA and my fellow panelists San Luis Obispo County Supervisor Dawn Ortiz-Legg and Janea Benton with Aera. We had a robust discussion on trends and challenges in the energy space as we work to decarbonize California. I was able to highlight the work SCE is doing around #CountdownTo2045 and the need for permitting reform and proactive grid buildout in order to stay on track with deploying clean energy, as well as powering California's economic growth. #PublicSpeaking #PublicAffairs #CleanEnergy #EnergyTransition #Utilities #GreenJobs #Transmission #Electricity

Today, a slate of Clean Energy bills become law in Michigan. It becomes the third Great Lakes state (after Illinois & Minnesota) to commit to 100 percent carbon-free electricity. This couldn't have been accomplished without the tireless work of many Joyce grantees, including the Michigan Environmental Council, Michigan League of Conservation Voters, Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) & Union of Concerned Scientists, among others, working tirelessly on #energy policy in Michigan.
