Technicians amaze me… These big jobs always look so overwhelming to me, but the technician working on this one said “it’s not that big of a deal, it’s just like a puzzle, you take it apart and put it back together again”. Skilled trades, specifically auto mechanics are in such high demand. This career path should have much more respect and funding, but unfortunately, we would rather send people to get degrees in things they will never use in the real world. Any chance you get, please support and promote skilled trades in your local community! After all, these are the people who will be working on your car, house, plumbing, electrical, etc…. #mechanics #technicians #carbusiness #fixedops #automotive #skilledtrades

“Skilled trades, specifically auto mechanics are in such high demand. This career path should have much more respect and funding, but unfortunately, we would rather send people to get degrees in things they will never use in the real world.” Marshall Sheldon, Richard Mueller RSE, Stephan Dos Santos, Russell Wickham, and I are doing our best to provide the mental resources that technicians need to overcome the lack of respect and funding through content on the Wrench Turners Podcast. With support from leaders like you Austin Conroy, we can only succeed. j.

For years this trade has been considered the domain of dumb grease monkeys, often by the people at the top of large dealer groups who's opinion that if a guy can change his oil on a Sunday morning he's good to be employed as a service technician on the cheap. The reality is vastly different with technicians needing to be well skilled in electrical and mechanical aspects which can have devastating effects if overlooked. Thanks for your post highlighting this.

Austin Conroy so true. I was talking to a guy who rebuilds car transmissions. He said now most times dealers on warranty just swap it out for a new one.

I always found the bigger jobs like this very rewarding and satisfying. The most nerve wracking part for me though was the initial startup and test drive after.

Unfortunately for the skill level required to be a good technician, it’s easier to sit behind a desk without having the stress of hitting efficiency and having the stress fault finding etc. The only way to make this trade more attractive is to pay decent. We may fill the job roles out there then.

Well, on the flip side though, they come out of schools really thinking they know something without hardly any real world knowledge.
