If you’re a business owner or considering opening a business, you don’t want to miss this Quarters “CEO Connect: Townhall mixer” hosted by Missouri City Chamber of Commerce Here’s why you should attend! 1. Business Challenges: Like many of you, I’m frustrated when I see friends’ businesses closing their doors. This impacts all of us. I visited 5 businesses this week who are no longer operating… 2. Unfair Penalties: I see too many of us facing fines and fees just for keeping our doors open. That’s not right. 3. Occupancy Issues: You get approved for occupancy, but surprise inspections make it hard to operate. We need fairer regulations. 4. Policies and Action Plan: We’ll dive deep into the policies hindering our businesses and discuss a concrete action plan to help overcome these obstacles. 5. Economic Strategies: We’ll explore ways to get ahead in this challenging economy and share insights on closing out a strong Q4. Bring main street, downtown, & the local economy back to life with small-scale manufacturing. CEO of Recast City.
Some downtowns are stuck. They keep pitching space to big national chains and they keep getting a NO. They can't figure out why and they just let all the existing businesses suffer from low foot traffic because they are waiting for the one big business to drive the whole market downtown. Well, I'm sorry to say, it just won't work. Want to see why? Read the full story and what we can do about it here: https://lnkd.in/dmictQC

From the Boston Business Journal editorial board: While some may discount business leaders' objections to the tax-burden shift as mere self-interest, it’s hard to argue against the opinion of the nonpartisan Boston Municipal Research Bureau, which issued a report on Wu’s plan in May. The report’s verdict: “Given the uncertainty of the economy and the recalibrating of the real estate market, and the key role that businesses and business property play in the city’s fiscal stability, now may not be the time to further burden business property owners and, by extension, their tenants, that include restaurants, retail shops, and small family-owned operations.”https://lnkd.in/eHNKRegk

Here's a draft for a LinkedIn post based on the article summary you provided: Title: Los Angeles Lifts Restrictions on Street Vendors: A Win for Small Businesses and Local Economy In a significant move to support small businesses and promote economic growth, the city of Los Angeles has agreed to lift restrictions and cancel fines for street vendors. This decision comes as a result of persistent advocacy efforts by the street vendor community, who have been calling for more lenient regulations. The new policy is set to provide street vendors with greater freedom to operate, enabling them to earn a living and contribute to the local economy without the burden of strict regulations and hefty fines. This development is particularly crucial in the current economic climate, where small businesses have been hit hard by the pandemic. Los Angeles' decision to support street vendors is a testament to the importance of fostering a thriving small business ecosystem. Street vendors not only provide diverse and affordable goods and services but also add vibrancy to the city's streets and contribute to the local culture. This move aligns with the growing trend of cities recognizing the value of small businesses and implementing policies to support their growth. By creating a more favorable environment for street vendors, Los Angeles is setting an example for other cities to follow. As professionals in industries related to small businesses, urban planning, or economic development, it's essential to consider the implications of such policies. How can we further support and empower small businesses in our own communities? What innovative approaches can be taken to strike a balance between regulation and economic opportunity? I encourage you to share your thoughts and experiences on this topic in the comments below. Let's engage in a constructive discussion on how we can foster thriving small business ecosystems in our cities. For more information on the specifics of Los Angeles' new street vendor policy, I recommend reading the full article from the Los Angeles Times [link to article]. Let's continue to advocate for policies that support small businesses and promote inclusive economic growth. Together, we can build vibrant and resilient communities. #SmallBusinesses #EconomicDevelopment #UrbanPlanning #LosAngeles #StreetVendors

Unpopular Opinion: Boring downtowns are a choice. You don't need to settle for vacant and bland storefronts. We've shut out local entrepreneurs from access to capital and too many places prioritize the attraction of yet another big box store instead of investing local. So we produce the same old results. Your downtown stays empty and your big boxes go vacant a few years later with the next set of stores down the highway. Ready to change that? Check out “Hidden in Pain Sight” to learn more about Recast City and what you can do to be more than the same old same old. https://bit.ly/3ILmKQc

Heads up- did anyone consult the local business owners in Gastown, Vancouver before implementing a pedestrian-only zone so soon after the financial losses under Covid? There is not enough housing in Gastown itself to have a captive market for the local businesses. Gastown's #smallbusinesses appear to have more of a #regionalretail draw by necessity. Translink ipublic transit is not as efficient regionally time-wise. https://lnkd.in/gsJt_C-D
