It's been great to be part of the PepsiCo Greenhouse Accelerator APAC over the past few months, and we're looking forward to the final pitch this week! A great thanks to Angel Motomal Lisa Zheng and all the guys at PepsiCo and their customers who generously gave us their time to help us learn more about the company and its ambitions, and work with us on designing and testing #reusable solutions for the market. What have we learnt from the experience? 🥤PepsiCo has a target of 20% of all beverages delivered in reusable packaging by 2030. There's a real ambition in the company to make this happen. 2030 isn't that far away! 🤝 #Partnerships are going to be really important for hitting this target. For example, in the Quick Serve Restaurant space, there are several stakeholders involved in getting the drink into the consumer's hands, and subsequently designing a functioning reuse service requires aligning different needs and expectations, including with companies that don't have the same public commitments to meet. 😇 To companies like ours, living and breathing and reuse every day, it's very easy to forget that it's still new to a lot of F&B stakeholders, who are just taking their first steps into this space. We're going to need to be patient, albeit with a sense of urgency, and find ways to de-risk the transition, and pivot and adjust our approach as we grow. #circularity #2030 #reusable #circulareconomy #reusereusereuse

Have you noticed the new caps on bottles? This change, initiated by Coca-Cola and now mandated across the European Union, serves a significant environmental purpose. Plastic caps on bottles up to three liters must now remain attached after opening, in accordance with the law coming into effect in July 2024. This measure aims to reduce plastic litter, especially on European beaches. Originally, bottle caps were often discarded, even though they were recyclable. With this new regulation, it is estimated that about 10% of plastic waste found on beaches can be prevented. Metal and glass containers are exempt from this requirement, but the changes for plastic bottles mark a significant step towards a more sustainable future. ♻️Do you know how it's called the international recycling symbol? The triangle composed of three arrows looping back on themselves in clockwise directions is called "Mobius Loop". This symbol indicates that a product can be recycled, but not necessarily that it has been itself produced from recycled materials. Yesterday the coalition organized by the National Stewardship Action Council met with 30 US Senators’ and Representatives’ offices to discuss the critical need for improved recycling rates that can come from a national recycling refund. I spent my day in meetings with members of both parties, and I came away surprisingly comforted that, by and large, we share similar values of conserving natural resources, improving the supply chains for critical materials, and, of course, wanting to preserve our open spaces.    Large consumer products companies tell me every day that they don’t have enough recycled content to make their packaging as sustainably as they want to, and a national recycling refund is such an intuitive way to help. States with bottle bills see their beverage container recycling rates reach more than 60% with ease, while states without them average recycling rates of only 17%.    If you live in a state with a recycling refund, you know that you don’t see litter from beverage containers in your streams and parks, and you know recycling becomes more embedded in the culture. Time for the US to adopt this model as a whole! There will be plenty of points to debate to hammer out a consensus, but we're ready and able to have that healthy debate. We’re determined to find a bipartisan, pro-business coalition of elected officials and stakeholders who want to see this happen.
