A profound delight in my role with the Austin Technology Council is the conversations I get to have with a cross-section of people in our tech ecosystem. When I took this job, I didn’t realize it would mean being part of so many discussions with interesting people from startups to multinational tech companies in the region. This week marks two years since I joined ATC, and it’s been an incredible journey. Austin has experienced amazing growth over the 30 years I've lived here (July 25th will be 33 years since I became an Austinite). Despite our regional population tripling, Austin still has a unique soul. But we can't take that for granted, and we must avoid becoming divided and siloed like many big cities. In today's ATC newsletter, I shared my desire to hear more stories from people and companies impacting the world. Our community needs to share more of the wins that happen daily. At ATC, our role is to ensure the good things about "Austin Tech" are known and celebrated. If we only read the national press, we miss the real truth—the NOW of Austin is a great place to live and work. Our city is vibrant and full of people creating technologies and building community. ATC is a grassroots organization, but I need to hear from more of YOU—the grassroots of our tech scene. When the Austin Tech Council CEO travels he always tries to meet with the leaders of the other Technology Councils around the country. These interactions are not just meetings; they’re a fusion of ideas, experiences, and visions for the future of technology in Austin and beyond. During a recent visit to Tampa Bay, FL, Thom had the pleasure of meeting with the Executive Director of Tampa Bay Tech, Meghan O'Keefe . Their conversation was an exchange of best practices and strategies to engage and empower tech community leaders in our communities. Tampa Bay and St. Petersburg are gaining recognition as thriving hubs for technology and women in tech. Post-pandemic, these cities have become top places for remote workers to relocate. Why are these meetings crucial for ATC and our members? With over 100 tech councils in North America, being connected means staying relevant. Austin is clearly a unique place with a long history of being a tech boom town- but we are not the only city with hopes to expand our tech base. These meeting allow ATC to curate innovative programs ideas hear how other tech hubs are creating growth through community, collaboration, and conversations. ATC’s involvement with Technology Councils of North America (TECNA) is a gateway for our members to reach out to influential individuals in tech across various cities. Whether our members are seeking collaborations, insights, or expansion opportunities, ATC is here to facilitate those critical introductions through other tech councils. Having these meetings is more than just about meeting people; it’s about knitting a network of tech communities, each unique yet united in their passion for technology and innovation. The Tech Council of Delaware and the Delaware Black Chamber of Commerce (a strategic partner of the Council), are collaborating to host an invite-only ⁕Focus Group Session⁕ on Thursday, November 30th from 11:00am-1:00pm for Delaware-based tech start-ups and tech-enabled small businesses led by underrepresented founders and owners. This interactive session builds on insights shared by members and stakeholders at our recent Tech Ecosystem Conference on 10/26 and is designed to obtain the unique perspectives, experiences, and needs of Black and Hispanic business owners who are leading companies in the tech sector and/or are strategically utilizing technology as part of their business operations. Diverse founders and business owners are an important and vital part of Delaware’s tech ecosystem and are encouraged to participate in developing solutions to common issues that are not currently being addressed through other channels. Technology and tech are not just for big business or corporate America. Diverse founders and business owners are recognizing the critical importance of leading in the tech space, practicing inclusive hiring and retention, and using technology to grow and thrive in today’s economy. While challenges and barriers persist, they must be addressed with intentionality; this session presents a step in the right direction and leverages the spirit of collaboration and solutions-oriented thinking. The Austin Technology Council wants to see the Austin tech community more engaged with SXSW in 2025. Now is the time to submit your ideas for a panel, fireside chat, book reading, workshop, meetup, or mentor session.    Austin and SXSW are intrinsically linked, each amplifying the other's unique energy and innovative spirit. SXSW is more than just a festival; it's a global stage where groundbreaking ideas and transformative technologies take the spotlight. By having our local tech companies represented on these stages, we showcase the brilliance and ingenuity that make Austin a hub of innovation.   Engaging with SXSW is a win-win for everyone involved. For SXSW, it ensures the inclusion of diverse, cutting-edge perspectives from one of the fastest-growing tech communities in the world. For Austin, it reinforces our position as a leader in technology and creativity. And for our local companies, it's an unparalleled opportunity to gain visibility, attract talent, and forge valuable connections.   The PanelPicker is a way for you to submit your ideas, and have the SXSW community vote for your concept. The Panel Picker is now open....so get your ideas submitted ASAP.   According to our friends at SXSW, here are 6 tips to help your submission get accepted:   1. Meet the Deadline. The PanelPicker will close at 11:59 PM on July 21st. 2. Format Choice. Consider all the formats and choose the one that best matches the intention for your session. 3. Consider All Programing Topics.  They have a full list of topics, and select the right one (remember, there will be a lot of AI submissions, so can your topic fit another category?) 4. Depth and Specificity. Trying to cover too much in one session is the biggest PanelPicker mistake. Drill down to one specific topic. 5. Unique Proposals. SXSW attendees value ideas and opinions that they do not find everywhere else. Create a proposal that is differentiated from all other views of your topic. 6.
