Hiring the right people can be hard. But we could be doing better. ‘It’s difficult to hire the best people’ is something I hear a lot. It’s certainly true that for organisations and their leaders, hiring the best people is an involved task. However, I would love to see organisations taking greater responsibility for proactive, detailed, and comprehensive talent planning across their business. What I mean by that is going back to the basics of good talent acquisition and management in areas like: • Deep training and development, so when people are promoted, they already have the skills, and when vacancies arise, there is someone to fill them. • Succession planning – ensuring a team is ready to fill places when someone moves on. • Working on interview techniques to ensure hirers probe deeper to understand the person and their transferrable and role-specific skills. Is empathy a trend for Talent Acquisition in 2024? 🤔🤔 Well, according to Korn Ferry´s Talent Acquisition Trends report for 2024 it is… interesting, right? The pandemic seems like ages ago, but the report points out that while 99% of professionals acknowledged leaders' empathy during the pandemic peak, it 𝐝𝐞𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐞𝐝 16-𝐩𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐭 𝐢𝐧 2023, and that based on research empathy makes leaders more effective (dah 🤣) and 92% of leaders with strong emotional self-awarness had teams with high energy and high performance. The question then becomes, 𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐝𝐨𝐞𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐭 𝐓𝐚𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐀𝐜𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, right?
