You need to adapt your training! If you look at virtually every professional sport, they have scientifically planned phases to training. Take football for example. There's an off-season, pre- season, in-season, etc. These phases are crafted by strength and conditioning specialists with the intention of keeping their athletes injury free, and at peak performance for game night. Now let's look at every combat sport. Fighters train hard, every day, no matter what. And when there's a fight booked, they just train harder. There's no planning. And this is the reason so many combat athletes struggle with burnout and injury. When someone asks me what I do for a living, and I tell them I am a personal trainer, I always feel the need to follow up with, “but I have my masters degree in occupational therapy”. I love personal training. I know how valuable personal training is. But I still feel the need to say it. My biggest goal with Eastside Athletics is to professionalize the fitness industry. To me, professionalism means being prompt, present and prepared during our sessions together. It is providing value that surpasses what other trainers can or will offer. It’s utilizing evidence-based training protocols, not the newest trends on the gram.
