https://lnkd.in/gP-yn5p3 Latest from me at TechCrunch: Chinese EVs – and their connected tech – are the next target of US lawmakers. A bill will soon be introduced to the House that would limit or ban the introduction of connected vehicles built by Chinese companies if found to pose a threat to national security. The bill comes as the trade war between the U.S. and China heightens in the aftermath of the Biden administration’s decision to quadruple import duties on Chinese electric vehicles to 100%.

Pulled from this week's SAI Weekly 06 - 24: _________________ Let’s play nice. The Chinese govt has formalized a framework for NEV exports to foreign markets in order to try to make it easier for Chinese EV brands to export to international markets. This is clearly an attempt at diplomacy and transparency because they’ve likely heard from the brands about the challenges they’ve come across and perhaps are trying to reduce / eliminate the chance of having a European IRA set up. _________________ Keen to read more? "Beijing could remotely stop electric cars made in China on UK roads" headline from The Times. Someone may be watching too much Dr Who - "The Sontaran Stratagem" from the fourth series of the revived show features the Sontarans, a militaristic alien race, using ATMOS (Atmospheric Omission System) devices installed in cars to control them and create a toxic gas to suffocate the Earth's population. The Sontarans' plan is to convert Earth into a breeding world for their species. The episode, which first aired in 2008, is part of a two-part story, with the second part titled "The Poison Sky." Though my theory is that TV shows just predict what is going to happen - look at Star Trek technology so who knows. 😀 https://lnkd.in/ghFAgKpq #drwho

“The Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) possible imposition of an export ban on #LiDAR technologies, coupled with their strategy of merging military and civilian tech advancements, underscores the urgency for the United States and its allies to respond proactively. Inaction risks yielding significant ground to an ambitious Beijing across the spheres of #technology, #economy, and #defense.” Read more from the Coalition for Reimagined Mobility: https://lnkd.in/ezXQZk6s
