Now that the Holiday is Over, WHAT IS ON YOUR VISION BOARD? This year's board isn't filled with generic goals like "get fit" or "travel more." Instead, it's a collage of images and phrases that represent the kind of professional I want to be, the kinds of networks I want to build, business and career aspirations and the experiences I crave. For instance, there's a picture of a serial entrepreneur and author, and he'll be speaking at a conference I wish to attend later this year; reminding me to prioritize budgeting and planning. For you, a quote about mastering a new skill may just be the encouragement you need to finally tackle that coding course you've been eyeing. The beauty of a vision board lies in its power to keep your aspirations at the forefront of your mind. It's a daily reminder to make choices that align with your long-term goals. Perhaps you envision yourself leading a community service project, or maybe it's painting a masterpiece. Whatever your desires, translate them into visuals that resonate with you. Here's the best part: your #vision board is a living document. As the year unfolds, new goals and aspirations might emerge. Feel free to add or remove images as your priorities #shift.

This past Thursday, I had the great honor of interviewing Dylan Field (CEO and co-founder of Figma) live on stage at Figma Config. This was the first ever live recording of this podcast, and was so much fun. If you watch the interview on YouTube you can see the epic stage they built for us to recreate my podcast studio 👏🔥 In our conversation, we dig into: 🔸 Building your intuition and product taste 🔸 The importance of keeping things simple 🔸 The future of product management 🔸 Stories from Figma's early days 🔸 Dylan’s journey as a leader 🔸 The future of design tools and AI 🔸 Much more Listen now 👇 - YouTube: https://lnkd.in/gfTw9ckp - Spotify: https://lnkd.in/gmbvNig7 - Apple: https://lnkd.in/gJquvTDx Some key takeaways: 1. Figma took 3.5yrs to launch their initial product, and despite their success, Dylan said this was “Way too long. Don’t do that.” Dylan recommends following common advice to ship and get feedback quickly. He adds that there are three things that you get to pick two of: Quality, features, deadline. 2. Intuition should play a significant role in product development, but it should be viewed as a hypothesis generator rather than the final word. Treat them like ideas. Discuss and test them with data. Then, refine them into solid plans that everyone agrees on. This way, you can make better decisions and move ahead confidently. 3. The best product managers deliver outcomes and “bring everyone along with them”. They put everyone in a shared headspace around what they’re doing, and they create an environment where people are happy after hitting milestones. Product management falls down when it’s too focussed on process, at the expense of focus on the problems a team is solving. 4. Aim for a “minimally awesome product” when launching new features or products. This means balancing feature completeness with a high enough quality to meet user expectations.

“Before Creativity Lab, I thought that creativity was separate from my work as a scientist. What I learned is that I can be creative in my work, and I can use creativity to access ways of thinking, processing, and doing that I don't usually use in my science.” - Laura -- This is the beauty of cultivating and courting creativity. You are able to different ways of thinking, processing, and doing than you do in other parts of your life. AND that opens up space within your relationship to your work, your family and friends, with yourself. In Creativity Lab, you'll have the structure and support you need to begin integrating creative practices into your life -- so it's not just another thing on your to-do list. You'll learn how to access your innate creativity so that it supports your life and work. -- If you have any questions about Creativity Lab, message me!

It has been a roller coaster of a week, which was thankfully mostly ok in the end - for week-notes 18 (week 48). In terms of practice it has mostly been focused on documenting customer and user stories. It is a real privilege to listen to such a wide range of voices for these, as well as observing needs, life events and requirements for future and ideal service delivery. It was also great to thank 🙏🏻, and celebrate the work and achievements of others who champion service design In research world it really has been about progressing 'designing for the 4%' through a developing scoping review, and considering the potential for this to be extended to a full systematic review in the future. 📖 Reading other reviews using this methodology has been hugely helpful and informative.. The research forward plan for this week, will then pretty much be title, and abstract screening (of the returned literature), and making sure that the search strategy is suitably robust. In practice world, it will likely be very much about consolidating stories and service patterns, and likely a new customer journey or two! Now - lets see what adventures week 49 brings! Here's to a 🔋positive one for all my networks and contacts 😊.... The Open University #designleadership #designresearch #servicedesign #codesign #designingjustice #weeknotes
