While the rise in survival rates is an incredible accomplishment we will continue to build upon as science advances, it has also brought about a paradigm shift in #cancer care.      I believe we have the opportunity to further improve patient care and experience if we evolve the way we think when making treatment decisions.     This requires a collaborative effort between those living with cancer, their healthcare providers, and the healthcare industry to ensure that patients' unique needs and preferences are integrated more comprehensively.     Read my latest article where I discuss how the future of cancer is rooted in embracing an individual's overall well-being, here: https://lnkd.in/ezeRkuTi

Thanks Awny for this insightful article that I hope drug developers, medical affair leaders, and practitioners will take to heart. Can we focus on the Patient not the Tumor, aiming for QoL Survivorship! Often treatment plans focus on hitting the tumor with all we got, surgery, chemo, radiation, immunotherapy.... to gain control over its microenvironment, and sometimes at the expense of healthy tissue and organs, and unfortunately we end up losing our loved ones to organ failure, not to the cancer we feared and battled all along. I whole heartedly agree with you, the more we can focus on early detection and targeted therapies; the less toxicity patients will experience and the more QoL survivorship they and their loved ones will enjoy. The good news, we have emerging arsenal of new treatments (CAR-T, ADC, Theranostics, ....), let us accelerate them and keep the clinical guidelines and SoC at pace with innovation.

Thx for sharing these important reflections Awny, so inspiring to read how scientific progress has allowed for these significant improvements making us to look at what is next. Patient outcomes that are meaningful for them should be part of all clinical decision making, and ideally also in the way healthcare will be financed. That can only be achieved through collaboration between all stakeholders involved.

Thank you for this important reminder, Awny. There are many factors that impact a patient's cancer journey - from socioeconomic status to location to cultural background. It's crucial we balance these with clinical outcomes and continually evaluate how we are defining patient-centric care in our rapidly evolving industry.

Important perspective as medicine and science advance, not just for cancer but also other serious diseases. QoL is very personal. Thank you for elevating the discussion.
