Despite treatment advancements with tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs), there remains an unmet need for patients with #ChronicMyeloidLeukemia who develop resistance to or hard-to-treat mutations following these therapies. We are committed to these patients, always aiming to pursue potential new treatment options.
We’ve announced an option agreement with Ascentage Pharma that will allow us to enter into a future exclusive global license agreement for its investigational therapy currently in development for #ChronicMyeloidLeukemia (CML) and other #HematologicalCancers. If exercised, the option would allow Takeda to secure rights to develop and commercialize the therapy in all indications and territories outside of mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan and Russia. While the rise in survival rates is an incredible accomplishment we will continue to build upon as science advances, it has also brought about a paradigm shift in #cancer care. I believe we have the opportunity to further improve patient care and experience if we evolve the way we think when making treatment decisions. This requires a collaborative effort between those living with cancer, their healthcare providers, and the healthcare industry to ensure that patients' unique needs and preferences are integrated more comprehensively. #Cancer is the second leading cause of death worldwide, with its impact expected to grow significantly in the next 25 years, according to the American Cancer Society. Every minute counts for patients and their loved ones — this fact has been a driving force in my career. It's time to challenge the status quo to bring forth solutions for patients faster than we have before. One way to do so? By reevaluating the "gold standard" in oncology clinical trials. Patients face a difficult path when diagnosed with #cancer, and lack of treatment options can lead to further emotional toll. People with metastatic #ColorectalCancer (CRC) have historically faced this challenge due to the heterogeneous nature of their disease and difficulties with targeted treatment development. There is a critical need to expand options for people with metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC). My colleague, Jenn, recently discussed the unmet needs people in the mCRC community face and why we must continue to drive therapeutic innovation. Read her thoughts below:
Like many, I've been thrilled to see the improvement in screening rates for colorectal cancer, contributing to an increase in early stage diagnoses. However, despite these advances, many people are still diagnosed with metastatic disease, at which point treatment can become more difficult. Through this partnership, we aim to offer a potential new treatment option to people with refractory metastatic #ColorectalCancer who have only limited or ineffective treatment options.

Through next-generation sequencing, health care providers can get a closer look at the mutations driving the cancer and consider treatment options designed to target them. This is imperative when talking about NSCLC mutations like EGFR Exon20 insertions - a very distinct mutation that can be difficult to treat. While we know the impact of NGS testing, it is not yet the standard of care due to a variety of barriers preventing adoption - including awareness, logistical concerns and reimbursement.
