This Amazon Web Services (AWS) blog gives insights into how to achieve this shift. I particularly like the point around speed being an executive choice - and the need to avoid the urge to add a new process step everytime something goes wrong.

A great blog and an area that greatly fascinates and interests me. In the Generation AI era, there are not too many technology constraints in business, unless you’re doing something niche and ground breaking…. Most organisations don’t have technology challenges, they have organisational challenges. One thing I learned in running IT for a FTSE 100 financial services company is the technology doesn’t really matter; you could have a really poor IT estate, but with the right people, culture, leadership and organisation, you can achieve anything - albeit, it might be hard work! A lot of my focus these days is less engineering but working with leaders to help them orientate to better ways of working, so they can focus on delivering business value. BMI in the context of the blog is an interesting thing you can use to measure the level of bureaucracy in your teams; but my favourite one liner in this space is “how much you can get done in an emergency versus in standard BAU is an indication of how much bureaucracy you have in your organisation.” As a senior leader, I’ve often told people in my teams “we don’t have to do that” or I’ll make that decision right here right now. Incredible how much resistance you get from your own teams!!
